70/100 I Street 909 New Jersey Avenue 23 I Street JPI News and Links
A rendering released in June 2007 by JPI shows the design of 70 I and 100 I buildings; 70 I, now dubbed "Jefferson at Capitol Yards", is on the left and 100 I ("Axiom at Capitol Yards") on the right. 70 I will have a "warehouse and industrial theme" design, while its sibling 100 I will be a more modern design. Both will have rooftop pools, fitness centers, a "resident pub", and concierge service. More about the amenities, and animated views of the buildings are available on the official project web site.

The same location, seven years later, with 70/100 I now dominating the view from the freeway, and obscuring the view of many of the other new buildings that have risen in Near Southeast. (The residential project Onyx on First is the construction at right-center.) (3/15/08)

The 70 and 100 I buildings were for a time part of the skyline as seen from the pressbox at Nationals Park, but have since been pretty well obscured. (11/5/07)

The same location, under construction, with 70/100 I remaking the horizon at rear center. And the Nexus is gone, to make way for JPI's 909 New Jersey Avenue. (5/1/08)

A hard-to-get shot of the 100 I Street lot (in the foreground) as seen from the Southeast Freeway, a few months before demolition began. The land from the freeway to the chain-link fence in the foreground, and to the left of the fence at the left side of the photo, is owned by CSX Rail. (02/06)

Roughly the same spot, with the buildings topped out. Great apartments with freeway views! (3/15/08)

On June 6, 2007, JPI held a groundbreaking ceremony for all of its I Street projects (which together they are called "Capitol Yards"). Upon arrival, Mayor Fenty seemed particularly humored by Ward 6 council member Tommy Wells. At left is Aaron Liebert of JPI. (6/6/07)
