What's New and Notable Outside Nationals Park Since Last Season
Updated Feb. 2016 | What Was New in 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012
What's the biggest difference in the blocks near Nats Park compared to how they looked at the end of the 2015 season?
Skeletons. Lots of skeletons (and a couple of holes), thanks to current construction on seven residential buildings, two hotels, and two office buildings. Scroll down for details.
Whaley's , a raw bar and seafood restaurant from the DGS Delicatessen folks, opened at the Lumber Shed in May 2016.
Top of the Yard, a rooftop deck at the Hampton Inn immediately north of Nats Park, is now open.
Il Parco has replaced the Park Tavern, serving Neapolitan-style pizza.
Buffalo Wild Wings opened in December, just north of Nats Park, on Half south of M.
Las Placitas, longtime Barracks Row restaurant, has moved to 8th & L.
Expected to Open in 2016
The Brig, a beer garden, at 8th and L, opening in Spring 2016.
Chix, an affordable fast casual restaurant serving chicken and vegetarian dishes, opening at 1210 Half St. SE in summer 2016.
Not Before 2017
The Salt Line , coming in Spring 2017 to the under-construction Dock 79 apartment building on Potomac Avenue across from Nats Park.
District Winery , a 16,000-square-foot restaurant, tasting area and private events space, coming to a new Yards Park pavilion (but it has to be built first).
Taylor Gourmet and Chop't, coming to the under-construction F1rst on 1st Street south of M, not before mid 2017.
Whole Foods, coming to the ground floor of the under-construction Agora at New Jersey and H. A 2017 opening might be optimistic.
See the JDLand Food Map for all the offerings, now open and coming soon.
What was supposed to be the showplace of the neighborhood languished for a number of years, but that's starting to change:
Two new residential buildings are starting to open as spring 2016 arrives, with another eight buildings currently under construction.
