What's New and Notable Outside the Ballpark Since Last Season
Updated May 2013 | What Was New in 2012

If you haven't been keeping track of the latest neighborhood news since the 2012 season ended, here's the headlines:

Latest Food and Entertainment Options

Kruba Thai and Sushi opened in fall 2012, from the people behind Regent Thai, Teak Wood Thai and Sushi, and Galae Thai & Sushi. It's at 3rd & Water SE in the Foundry Lofts building, across from the Yards Park.

After months of rumors, brewery/restaurant Gordon Biersch at 100 M St. SE is really in the neighborhood, having opened to the public on April 1 (yes, Opening Day).

After 13 years of planning, Canal Park at 2nd and M SE finally opened in November, and its restaurant the Park Tavern endured a few months of delays to reach its own opening in mid-April.

The Boilermaker Shops at 3rd & Tingey SE in the Yards has four restaurants slated to open in stages this year: Bluejacket brewery, Buzz Bakery, Nando's Peri-Peri, and Willie's Brew and 'Que.

The Lumber Shed at the Yards Park at 3rd and Water streets SE is on its way to opening in summer 2013, with Chef Michael White's Osteria Morini and Mexican restaurant Agua 301. Also, Nicoletta Pizzeria will be coming to the Yards Park boardwalk.

See the Food Options Map for exact locations.
Don't forget the other options in Southwest (Z-Burger, Station 4) and along Barracks Row.

Other New Developments

The Camden South Capitol apartments right across from Nats Park at South Capitol and O are supposed to begin leasing soon, opening to tentants on April 10, 2013.

The neighborhood's first new non-service retailer is coming this summer, when Desi Living Loft Furniture opens a 3,000-sq-ft showroom in the ground floor of the Foundry Lofts.

The old white monolith by the freeway at 3rd Street that was the Star/Post plant has gotten a makeover, and is now the blue-tinged 200 I Street office building, home to four DC city agencies.

The 11th Street Bridges continue to change, with a new ramp from outbound I-695 to northbound DC-295, along with the almost completed 11th Street Local Bridge, with a great pedestrian/bike path.

Underway, But Still A Ways From Completion:

Vertical construction is now underway at 1212 4th St., a new 225-unit apartment building at the Yards more notable for the planned Harris Teeter in the ground floor. Vida Fitness, Bang Salon, and Sweetgreen have announced as tenants as well. Completion expected in mid 2014.

Work on the Park Chelsea, a 430-unit apartment building at New Jersey and I, is ongoing, with completion expected in 2014. Be aware of this construction site on the walk to and from Capitol South.
