Updated Feb. 2016 | What Was New in 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012
What's the biggest difference in the blocks near Nats Park compared to how they looked at the end of the 2015 season?
Skeletons. Lots of skeletons (and a couple of holes), thanks to current construction on seven residential buildings, two hotels, and two office buildings. Scroll down for details.
If you haven't been keeping track of the latest neighborhood news since the 2015 season ended, here's the headlines:
What was supposed to be the showplace of the neighborhood languished for a number of years, but that's starting to change:
The 168-room building opened in December 2015.
JBG's 290-unit building with retail at South Capitol and N now under construction, delivery in 2017.
F1RST/RESIDENCE INN/99 M
: Huge project with an apartment building, an office building, and a Residence Inn got underway in spring 2015, first openings in 2017.
WEST HALF STREET
: JBG is planning two residential buildings and retail, with construction likely starting after the 2016 season. (The Fairgrounds will remain open this season, though.)
A new 195-room hotel at Half and M is expected to open by 2017.
HALF STREET HOLE:
Construction could start in late 2016 on a combo rental/condo/retail space just north of the ballpark, where the huge hole has sat for years.
A 247,000-square-foot office building is planned for the north end of the Fairgrounds.
