Official Web Site for Canal Park Goes Live
A birdie has whispered in my ear that
Canal Park now has an official web site that's just gone live, at
CanalParkDC.org. There's a lot of information there, including a first rendering of the new design. They are apparently committing to an ice skating rink, along with a restaurant/cafe pavilion, both near M Street. The site says March 2010 for the beginning of construction, with the park opening in March 2011. They're also posting photos of the progress, which I think is a *fine* idea. (heh heh)
UPDATE: Looks like maybe some Powers That Be weren't too happy that I heard about this, and have pulled the site down.
UPDATE II: And now it's back.

Hmm. Would love to see but the link looks down :(

I'm guessing some folks were a little unhappy that I heard about it, and pulled it back offline. Ah well.

Website or not...its good to see those big yellow vehicles gone.
Hopefully the dirt that replaces them will not be there for years..

Hopefully the work on the underpass to Garfield Park will not be too far behind. Its agreat way to "connect" the neighborhood and expand the influence of the great progress in Near SE.

An ice rink? I'd rather have some water features for warm weather.
JD says: (May 23, 2009 12:59 PM)
look closer at the site--there's plenty of non-iced water features.

I spoke too soon... but all these elements seem too much for such a small space of land. I realize it's 3 blocks, but they are only half-width.
Also, I'm confused because the features listed seem like the old list of features that are currently being redesigned because they were deemed too expensive?

and now its gone...
