Page Through from Before to After
Greetings, and somehow we (read: I) have made it to 2018. Here's a few brief tidbits before I head off onto yet another stint on the disabled list (arthroscopic hip surgery, which partially explains why I have not been doing a lot of walking around the neighborhood with camera). I expect to be back at the keyboard in plenty of time for the gala celebration of JDLand's 15th anniversary, on Jan. 19. * RESTAURANT CHLOE: Washingtonian gets the scoop, and lots of details, on the Jan. 5 opening of Chloe, the first solo venture by Chef Haidar Karoum. It's located on the southwest corner of 4th and Tingey, in the ground floor of Arris, across from Bluejacket. Washingtonian reports that the menu "is a mismash of all the cuisines Karoum has cooked professionally (Spanish, Southeast Asian, modern American), grown up with (Lebanese), and fell in love with while traveling (Mediterranean and beyond)." * NEW FOOD PANTRY: At the other end of the food spectrum is the news that St. Vincent de Paul--the church at South Capitol and M that brings you Nats Mass in the summer--has launched a new monthly food pantry. It will be open on the 4th Saturday of every month from 10 am to noon, and donations can be dropped off inside the main doors of the church. It is part of the network of food pantries run in partnership with the John S. Mulholland Family Foundation, and monetary donations can be made here. If you are interested in volunteering, contact St. Vincent de Paul. * GSA WAREHOUSE: Looks like someone out there has bid $31 million to buy the GSA warehouse on the southeast corner of Half and L Streets, SE. Will that be the final purchase price? We shall see!

Have a most beneficial and brief (and warm) stint on the DL. The gala on the 19th is black tie, right?
RMP says: (1/3/18 10:07 AM)
I'm personally thrilled that Chloe is opening because the build-out seemed to drag on forever and living above it has been quite a nuisance. The Washingtonian article makes the food look pretty good.
JD says: (1/3/18 11:54 AM)
Yup. $31 million, all in Google ads revenue. Paid cash. I think I'll turn it onto a roller rink.
adamdonovan says: (1/3/18 1:52 PM)
"The dinner menu is made up of some snacks, “medium plates,” and larger platters that can feed at least two, including a bone-in pork chop and whole fish." Can we just go back to normal-sized "plates", please? WTF is a medium plate anyway? It should just be called a f-ing main course.
RMP says: (1/3/18 8:05 PM)
Chloe is open right now. I assume for a private soft opening. I guess none of us were invited.
JD says: (1/4/18 9:28 AM)
Surgery postponed, so I guess I can go back to my previous schedule of barely posting. :)
CJBabyDaddy says: (1/4/18 3:39 PM)
But the gala’s still on for the 19th, right? My deposit for the Anthem after-party is non-refundable. And the thought of asking Janelle Monae and Adele to reschedule gives me a headache.
jdc says: (1/8/18 8:01 AM)
When you walk out of Metro entrance on Half Street, there is a banner saying that leasing has begun for Van St. apartments. Also, it seems as if all of the projects on southern portion of Half St. are now well above ground, despite the frigid temperatures.
jdc says: (1/8/18 2:27 PM)
Also, I think the taxi cab shop on L is finally closed?
CJBabyDaddy says: (1/12/18 7:00 PM)
Any chance the gala on the 19th can be held at Restaurant Chloe? I ate there this week and was impressed by one course after another.
JD says: (1/12/18 7:03 PM)
They kind of gave me a bizarre runaround when they were in their final build out (got in touch with me, offer a tour, then shunted me to four different people before ghosting me), so no. Bill would have dug that menu, though.
CJBabyDaddy says: (1/12/18 8:25 PM)
Bummer. WaPo was doing a photo shoot while we chowed down Thursday (Jan 11) evening.
