South Capitol at N, Looking North (see more)

After a few days of "soft" openness, Latin-flavored "green eatery" Chix is now open at 1210 Half St., SE, just south of the Navy Yard-Ballpark Metro station and next door to Buffalo Wild Wings, in the block north of Nats Park, in the ground floor of 55 M Street.
I have been out of town, and so apologies for the pre-opening photo accompanying this post, but you can check out Chix's Facebook page (or this photo from JDLand reader @JRogers202) to make up for my failure. (And I hope to make up for it myself before too long.)
Here's the menu for your perusal. Hours have not yet been posted, but I have asked and will update this post whence they arrive. UPDATE: Per this tweet, hours are 11 am to 9 pm daily.
This is now the third restaurant right near the corner of Half and M SE, joining The Big Stick and the aforementioned BWW. The offering expected to arrive next at that central location is Shake Shack, which is targeting a spring 2017 opening in the ground floor of the Homewood Suites on the northeast corner of the intersection.

Did Parcel O ever get a name? I thought I recalled that it was near. Every day they seem to have moved a bit more dirt around over there. At least that's what I can tell from my window.

@RMP - I haven't been to this new Chix yet, but based on my experience at their U St location, I actually like it better than Nando's. I like their "Chix" chicken better than any of the Nando's options, and the sides are uniformly excellent.

There has been a couple of noticeable pedestrian and road infrastructure improvements in the neighborhood over the past couple of days.

Also, we're approaching peak JD Land happy hour weather.

I seem to remember a discussion before about stringing lights across half-street a long time ago. I was just in St. Louis this weekend and saw their "Ballpark Village" development around Busch Stadium and it was really coming along (downtown St. Louis has several areas with the lights strung back and forth down streets that made me think of the old discussion about lights on Half street). Are there any concerted plans to create a similar atmosphere along Half and N streets? That area is absolutely perfect for what they're doing in St. Louis. And I was in the neighborhood on a Saturday evening while the Cardinals were in San Francisco and the area was still hopping.

About Ballpark Village... haa. It's barely what the developer and team promised. Let's be real, it's still 80% parking lot almost 10
years since they promised it would be built. (For the record I moved here from St. Louis). I think you're also talking about Wash Ave with the lights. Its the major tourist strip of downtown; well it and Ballpark Village.

Fun observation: Looks like the National Elite cruise boat is using Diamond Teague Park as a temporary dock location. I'm assuming due to construction at The Warf.

Yeah, I could definitely see how the Ballpark Village was intended to be MUCH bigger (mostly based on how much surface parking there is around it).

But what is there, was exactly what I'd hope Half Street (between M and N) and N street (between S. Capitol and 1st) would be. And yes, the other area was the Wash Ave area.

JD, yes, I remember the end of the discussion was the lights were denied. But I couldn't remember if there were any other discussions about a concerted "village" kind of feel for that area?

The 'no' to lights is ridiculous, and once again why I generally loath any type of aesthetic restrictions on what developers can build.

I noticed that several sections of the Congressional Square parking lot at 1st and I St, SE were taped off and it looked like there was soil sampling for the site this morning. I saw someone surveying for that site last week.

Not really news on all that Congressional Square stuff--we know it was sold, and so soil borings are probably part of the engineering for designing new residential buildings.
