Page Through from Before to After

Today marks the official opening of hyperlocal campaign season, better known as the elections for Advisory Neighborhood Commissions. Prospective candidates can now pick up petitions from the DC Board of Elections and have until Aug. 10 to return them with the signatures of at least 25 registered voters who live in the Single Member District the candidate wishes to represent.
Near Southeast is currently covered by two SMDs, as you can see on my map of ANC 6D or ANC 6D's map of ANC 6D. The larger and more eastern/northern of the two SMDs is 6D07, represented since the beginning of 2015 by Meredith Fascett, who has confirmed for me that she is running for reelection.
Then there is 6D02, which crosses South Capitol Street from the bulk of its acreage in Southwest to include multiple residential buildings in Southeast, including 909 New Jersey, Velocity, Parc Riverside, and Capitol Hill Tower--and will before long also include F1rst, 1244 South Capitol, 909 Half, and all the other pending projects between 1st Street SE and South Capitol Street. (6D07 gets the Park Chelsea, Arris, Dock 79, Insignia, ORE 82, and Agora.)
Stacy Cloyd has represented 6D02 since March of 2014, but has announced that she will not be running for reelection.
If you are interested in becoming an ANC commissioner, confirm which SMD you live in and then start the petition process. And then let me know that you're running.
"Normal" SMD boundaries are drawn to include approximately 2,000 voters, but these two SMDs aren't anywhere close to that anymore, since the boundaries were drawn with 2010 census numbers, and a WHOLE lot more people live in the neighborhood in 2016 than did in 2010, and a WHOLE LOT more will live in the neighborhood in 2020, when the next census and redistricting cycle will come around. It will be fascinating to see how different the Near SE/SW ANC structure is--along with Ward 6 as a whole--after 2020. But I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. (If you want to read about the 2011 process, go here and scroll down a bit to get to the meat.)

In other news, Bardo is trying again:

And, in the midst of everything swirling in my life, just had a reader write to me saying he wants to replace me as neighborhood blogger and could I meet him within the next week or so just to chat.

Motherf****er, f**k you.

I'm so mad I'm shaking right now.

NavyYardGuy says: (7/11/16 2:54 PM)
JD--Nobody is replacing you.

Trust.

202_cyclist says: (7/11/16 2:58 PM)
It's outside of the neighborhood but here are a couple of photos of the DC United stadium (not trying to replace you, JD).

EM3 says: (7/11/16 2:58 PM)
You are irreplaceable. And that is crass and ugly behavior.

Sending my very best wishes to you and your husband.

jdc says: (7/11/16 4:47 PM)
That is beyond crass.

CJBabyDaddy says: (7/11/16 6:40 PM)
First things first: Best wishes to you and The Hubster on his adventure.

Now: Tell that reader that I just put a six-pack of WhoopAss in the fridge and Imo open it up on 'im when it gets nice and frosty. The f***in' nerve.

[Please pause for a moment of silence to honor the asterisks that made the ultimate sacrifice above.]

dude says: (7/11/16 7:46 PM)
Maybe I should run? Will 25 of you sign a petition for the dude?

FedInExile says: (7/12/16 8:13 AM)
"Replace you" ???
What does that even mean? If someone wants to type stuff on the Internet, then go ahead. But no one is going to do a better job than our beloved JD.

This site is YOURS - the work of your imagination, talent, and hard work. Are you just supposed to hand over the keys to some mope who says so?

What is wrong with people these days?

JD, this site is you and yours, through and through. Its readership is testament to your skill, diligence, and creativity. Long live JDLand!

Our thoughts and prayers continue for Mr JD and for you. Know that we love you, and that this reader isn't going anywhere else for local news and culture!

BillP says: (7/12/16 9:39 AM)
Unreal. I echo all of FedinExile's thoughts and hope that you and MrJD are persevering.

E. Masquinongy says: (7/12/16 9:47 AM)
Replacing JD, LOL. Thanks for the laugh, I needed that.

Actually I was hoping for someone to replace the guy that moved on from DC Porcupine. Maybe you could post a link to the new blog?

RMP says: (7/12/16 9:47 AM)
What's stopping this guy/woman from putting up a new blog and writing about or photographing the neighborhood? I assume "replace" in this context means inherit a decade's worth of quality work. That's not cool.

JD says: (7/12/16 8:01 PM)
Thanks for having my back, folks.

And since it's kind of percolating around (and since this is pretty deep in the comments, where only the most committed readers venture), I'll pass along that what we are dealing with is stage 4 bile duct cancer. We've got a challenge on our hands, but we are ready to fight.

As I said in my previous post, I'm probably going to be bypassing a lot of "minor" posts that normally went up just for the sake of continuing content, but I actually believe I'm going to need JDLand as a bit of a distraction.

Plus I bought a new lens for my camera and need to get myself out to take photos.

202_cyclist says: (7/12/16 8:28 PM)
JD-- I am very sorry to hear this. One of my childhood friends has Stage 4 colon cancer and he is otherwise healthy and living an enjoyable life. A good attitude and a healthy routine goes a long ways. Best wishes for you and your husband.

walt says: (7/13/16 9:46 AM)
Sorry to hear it JD. The neighborhood is rooting for you and rallying for Mr.JD

I have a car and dedicated parking. If you need a lift anywhere, I can drive/pick up/drop off anywhere you need between the hours of 6pm and midnight.

jdc says: (7/13/16 10:10 AM)
If I read this story correctly (I hope I am), this means Congressional Square is dead and instead it will be 800 luxury apartments. link

JHUGrad says: (7/13/16 10:26 AM)
Yep, It looks like they couldn't get any big commercial development to happen at Congressional Square. It seems like the area is being saturated with apartments. I can see apartment prices dropping with this many units being built.

Southwest_EA says: (7/13/16 12:07 PM)
Very sorry to hear of your husband's condition. Prayers and best wishes to you both. And much thanks for all you and he have contributed to the rebirth of near Southeast - I would dare say that your blog was a big part of keeping interest and hope in the area alive and well! Perhaps one day the city will at least name a park or a street in both your honor :)

dude says: (7/13/16 10:16 PM)
I guess I don't say enough clever things here to capture your votes, so I'll have to wait until the bigger stage in 2020.

jdc says: (7/14/16 8:22 AM)
I agree w/ Southwest_EA - we need to rename a street for JD
