3rd Place at L, Looking East-Northeast (see more)

For those keeping score at home, we have a new member of the above-ground-construction fraternity, with rebar now poking up at 1244 South Capitol Street, JBG's 290-unit apartment building on the northeast corner of South Capitol and N, immediately north of Nats Park.
(This is the site that has the tower crane with the lit crescent moon hanging from it, if you're someone who has gotten used to seeing that tableau from your seats at the stadium.)
The building is expected to be completed in late 2017ish, and will have 26,000 square feet of retail.
This lot is at the south end of the same block where the new National Association of Broadcasters HQ and its sibling 163-unit condo building 10 Van are expected to begin construction later this summer.
While I don't know anything specifically, I'm guessing that the owners of the Public Storage building that within two years or so will be sandwiched between two new luxury residential buildings get a lot of phone calls from developers.

Also, eagle-eyed readers may note that I updated the Highlighted Projects map at the top right of all pages, removing completed projects, adding NAB/10 Van, and shifting things around a bit. Getting a little tight between New Jersey and South Capitol!

Is it me, or have the buildings on 1st Street rocketed towards completion? They seemed to reach full height in no time, and the cladding is going up at a furious pace. Compared to other projects, they seem to be moving along at a very furious clip.

Speak of which, I came to this blog somewhat later, but is there any story about how the 'holdouts' stayed holdouts? Namely, Ann's B/S & wigs (what else is in that building?), and also the car repair shop on K and 1st. If the idea was to hold on and get a better price, I cannot see either owner benefiting much because the properties don't seem to work for any high-rise developments any longer. I suppose the 'beauty' of Ann's place is that someone could build a SFH there, if they really wanted a SFH and to live in the heart of JDLand. Maybe we could all chip in and buy it and make it a JDLand hangout?

@jdc-- I'm not an engineer but I certainly think it would be possible to build a nice row rowhouse or a few condos where Ann's wigs is. Also, does anyone know what the deal is with the vacant lot at 3rd & L St, SE? It is a good size lot where a developer could build at least two or three condos.

202, I think you're asking about the last of the Capper neighborhood to be developed. Those empty lots / parking lots parallel to Canal Park are eventually supposed to be apartment buildings (potentially with separated public housing buildings as well).

202, do you mean the grassy courtyard on L street between 3rd and 4th? That's a courtyard for the EYA townhouses that surround it. Part of the Capitol Quarter community

It would be funny though if someone started building on that lot!

IMPORTANT JD LAND UPDATE!!! My wife and I went to Il Parco on Saturday night and the food (and lemoncello) was excellent. This is a big improvement from Park Tavern.

Was there anyone at iL Parco? Last time I was there on a Friday night my family were the only people in the joint. Also the dinner order came out about 20% correct. It was great at the beginning but seems the service has gone down since.

There were a few people (3-4 other tables were full outside) at Il Parco. The service was inconsistent but the food was excellent.

I've been to Il Parco a few times now for lunch. I think the pizzas are fine, not great, but a big improvement over Park Tavern. The service is still mostly crap though. At one point there were more employees there than customers and the service still stunk.

Does anyone have a restaurant in JDLand where they've received consistently great service? (for lunch and/or dinner). I find Gordon Biersch to generally be terrible at lunch (I sit at the bar), though that has not stopped me from trying it over and over. I've had good experiences at Big Stick and Due South.

@JDC - I have been generally happy at Bonchon. My one time at Osteria Morini was good as was the one time that I went to Whaley's. Takorean has always been good too, but I don't think that counts.

@Shogungts - and the food? I've never good anything above 'meh' from those who eat at Bonchon. I haven't tried it yet for that reason, despite it being so close. I am excited for Chix, though.

Oh man, I love Bonchon's wings. Just love them. Wish their Diet Coke didn't come out of a gun, though. (I concern myself with the important things.)

While I'm still kind of away from blogging, there so far really hasn't been anything that I have truly felt like I should post but couldn't. It's more than I'm just not digging beyond the obvious for anything at this point, and I imagine that's going to be the case for a good while to come. Not quite ready to give details, other than to say that I myself am okay.

@JDC -I am with JD on this one; if you like breaded wings (get the wings, not the strips), Bonchon's are incredible. Seriously, my top 5 restaurants in DC: Rose's Luxury, Red Hen, Little Serow, Toki Underground, and Bonchon. Notice that one of those sticks out from the others, that is how good their wings are*.

*Note: Although Bonchon is a chain, they are somewhat lax with their consistency between their locations; the menu, design and (unfortunately) quality can vary from location to location. The two closest to JDLand (Navy Yard and Arlington) have always produced great wings in my experience (just avoid the one in Leesburg at all costs).

Also, at Bonchon, get the "wings" (which have both wings and drumettes) and not the larger drums. Though maybe that's a white meat vs. dark meat thing for me.

Re: service at nearby restaurants, I've found the bartenders at Agua 301 to be consistently solid - they're always responsive and willing/able to walk you through the restaurant's extensive tequila menu with helpful suggestions.

The Parcel O project page has been there for months. PNH recently tweaked their page to combine "current & past" projects (instead of having separate pages for "current" and "future" projects, which now gives the Parcel O page greater visibility.

Later this year, when they turn on the Parcel O page "Visit Website" link, I'll be reduced to tears and suffer the humiliation of a Crying CJBabyDaddy meme being posted all over JDLand.com.

P.S. -- I was told in April that sales would not begin until the first Q of 2017.

I don.t know if it portends to anything but the trees next to the perimeter of the vacant WC Smith lot on New Jersey Ave were recently removed and it looks like a new curb cut was added on the south end of this lot.

In other news, It is outside the Capitol Riverfront/Navy Yard area but on my run this afternoon, a checked out the construction of the futbol stadium and they are not wasting any time there. Buzzard Point now seems like how this area was ten years ago.

Could be nothing (is probably nothing), but a couple guys are taking the fence banners down on the parking lots that are bordered by Half, K, I, and First. Wonder if they're just refreshing them or if that means another intended office project is going to turn residential...

I have had my eye on this block for a number of weeks hypothesizing exactly that, after seeing some hints that something was perhaps changing. I don't know anything else, though.

Can't imagine it would stay all office space after how the area has become almost all residential surrounding it.

What has happened with the stalled sidewalk enhancements on L St, between 2nd and 3rd St? The sidewalk on the south side of the street is completely unusable. The recently-completely sidewalks look nice but it looks like work has stalled on this section for at least a month.
