Page Through from Before to After

The spiffy new Yards Marina, now ready for business, is having its grand opening celebration from 2 to 5 pm this Sunday, June 26.
There will be a slew of activities, including tours of the new space, short boat trips on the Anacostia, live music, games (yes, including corn hole), face painting, circus performers, children's crafts, "Mermaid Story Time," and much more. It is free and open to the public.
The marina has 50 boat slips, a water taxi dock (though no announcement yet as to any new services), and a paddler dock for kayaks and smaller personal boats. Half of the slips are for "long-term, seasonal use" while the others are for stays of 10 days or less. If you want more information on slips (including free "parking" for the grand opening), contact Living Classrooms at 202-488-0627.

Great timing to be open for business in time for the 4th of July holiday - including fireworks next Friday night after the Nats game. I'll be surprised if I ever use this marina, but I think it'll be a good addition to the neighborhood.

I'll be interesting to see how well it's used. And how much trash is captured by all the slips.

JD: Your last sentence suggests Living Classrooms is managing the marina. Didn't find anything on their website about slips.

From the press release from Forest City, which is also the one that gave the Living Classrooms phone number to call about slips:
"Living Classrooms will serve as a nonprofit partner, managing the marina’s educational programming as part of their youth outreach and as an employment venue for students participating in their job-training program."

JD, isn't Monument Valley an original JDLand name? Because now DCist is using it as if it's the official name of the site. Made me smile!

oops, I mean Urban Turf!

JD says: (6/22/16 11:29 PM)
Yes, Monument Valley is a JDLand name. There's a whole lot of pretty familiar content in that piece, isn't there.

walt says: (6/24/16 7:53 PM)
Yes, imitation might be the sincerest form of flattery, but in journalism, it's just really really wrong. I appreciate your original content and original ideas. I hope you call them out on their borrowed content.

FYI for anyone curious about the "water taxi" portion of the marina; I was told not until "next season" and that it will be commercial.

lauren_k4 says: (6/27/16 10:00 AM)
Does anyone know what's going on with the grassy areas by the marina? They put fences around the grass plots, and even more recently, put up some "Yards" billboards to make it look a little less intrusive.

It's the prep for construction of the District Winery bldg. Maybe someone can post a link to my posts on it, I'm on my phone right now.

(Family emergency.)

I wonder where the water taxi will go... direct service to either national harbor, old town, or even georgetown (or all three!) would be pretty awesome. I just hope it doesn't cater to baseball goers only...
