While move-ins are probably still a good two months away, the folks at the Park Chelsea at 880 New Jersey Ave., SE, have now opened their ground-floor leasing center inside the building.
So of course I had to immediately scurry over to get some photos of both this space and the one-bedroom model units that are currently available.
If you have your heart set on a unit on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th floors, pre-leasing has already begun, with the "release" of units expanding upwards in coming weeks.
This will actually be the leasing center for all three buildings on this block, officially known as "The Collective." Agora (aka the Whole Foods Building) is already under construction immediately to the north, and then the Garrett will come eventually along 2nd Street. All together there will be close to 1,200 units when build-out is finished.
Alas, despite my best attempts at looking sad, forlorn, depressed, despondent, crestfallen, and miserable, I didn't get to see the amenity spaces throughout the rest of the building, as work is still in progress. And two-bedroom models aren't available just yet, either.

Thanks for the sneak peak, JD! A lot of Mad Men inspired décor, no? Speaking of which, it's definitely a good idea to include a bar in the leasing center! You definitely want to start any apartment showcase with a cocktail. All in all, it looks ok to me. I'm excited to see how the neighborhood changes as these projects start to wrap up!

Seems very run of the mill for this type of project. Nothing stands out, except for the outside of the building. Still, apartments are apartments and I have no doubt they will fill promptly.

I do think that the whole "amenity space" thing is where a lot of new apartment buildings are investing, since you kids seem to be just fine with hanging out in "public" spaces with other people. Those of us who like to squirrel ourselves away into a private cave don't quite understand it. :)

Kind of disappointing. They've spent so much time marketing the building as completely over-the-top awesome. Maybe that was only referring to the amenities that you didn't get to see? The model units look pretty plain. Any idea what kind of rent they're asking for a floorplan like the model?

It's just a mistake in the permits database, that's a permit for 82 I.

As for the storage building, I don't doubt that developers are dreaming of getting it, and I think JBG mentioned their desire for it during the approvals process for 1244 South Capitol - Just a matter of when/if the owners decide to sell. I think U-Haul might have more time, more like after the soccer stadium and the new Douglass Bridge are finished.
