With a Board of Zoning Adjustment hearing coming soon (as now advertised), the developers planning a residential project on the site where McDonald's currently provides (among other items) tubs of Diet Coke to addicted bloggers have submitted some revisions to the design first seen back in October. The original version is on the left, the new submission on the right:
While there is no change to the overall "program"--a first-phase apartment building with about 380 units and around 2,700 square feet of retail, plus a second phase with either another 170ish apartments, or condos, or maybe even a hotel--there have been some "enhancements and modifications" in response to comments from ANC 6D at its December meeting, including revising the facade facing South Capitol Street and adding glass balconies to the southwest and northwest corners of the building.
They've also revised the rendering of the entranceway (original here, new one seen below). I'm also including the floor plan of the ground floor to show where the "phases" will be, as well as how the interior driveway/courtyard is laid out.
The BZA hearing is February 9.

Regarding McDonald's, probably DC's attempt to at least copy San Francisco with a $15 per hour minimum wage was a factor, or perhaps, the lack of an outright rejection by our lame city council of a 16 week paid maternal and paternal maternity/sick person leave program. This city is the worst in which to start AND to maintain a business; city council lacks only a tax on funerals to help fill its coffers.

Maybe if we had a $6 minimum wage and were anti-worker we wouldn't have been the fastest growing state (if DC was a state) in 2015. Leave your politics off of this site and focus on a growing, vibrant, neighborhood.

My last bit on this-- Seattle has a $15 living wage and it has also enjoyed one of the fastest growing economies in recent years.

202 - not sure the $15 min wage is the driving force of that growth in Seattle. Pretty sure such companies as Microsoft, Boeing and Amazon might have something to do with that along with being a port city.

That looks really nice. The one potential problem I see is getting out of that driveway onto Eye Street during rush hour. People are so frantic to get to the light that they won't let anyone else get ahead of them. There's probably a way to solve that with traffic flow, but it's beyond me. Still, it will be a great addition to the neighborhood.

The 15 dollar living wage probably isn't the driver of success in Seattle, but I think 202's point is that it also hasn't been a hindrance to growth.
