Page Through from Before to After

I know it's been pretty silent around here, and will probably be that way for a few more days. I'm just continuing to be knee-deep in the Post's move from its 15th Street location to the spiffy new digs at One Franklin Square.
If you spent any time on social media on Wednesday, you were probably hard pressed to avoid the avalanche of photos and videos and updates from the newsroom's "decommissioning" celebration (some of which I took/shared), but it really was a nicely done send-off that deserved the saturation coverage. (Be sure to watch the video here looking back at the old building and at how newspapers used to be produced, including lots of Watergate-related memories.)
Even as a relative newbie at the Post compared to some people (I've only been there 18 years, while the reigning longtime employee, Marty Weil, arrived in November 1965), there's certainly wistfulness about all of the memories, but there's no getting around the fact that that space had long outlived its ability to keep up with the times. And so we will now be in a state-of-the-art space, befitting the parallel change from being a newspaper to being a news/media company.
In the meantime, at least there doesn't appear to have been much news in the neighborhood, though I did at least take one photo lately, of the clearing progress at 1244 South Capitol. So I'm not completely useless.
Continue talking amongst yourselves, and hopefully normal output will return here before too much longer. (Except then there's that new Star Wars movie coming out, and then Christmas, and and and...)

Does anyone know when the Hampton Inn will open and will it have a cool rooftop bar like the new Hyatt in SW has?

Wow... lots of new development news today! JBG details new residential building...

The West Half development looks great!

!@#$^%&^!%@#&^%^@#

I have been looking for that zoning filing every freaking day for weeks.

JD says: (12/10/15 5:00 PM)
... And the announcement on the Parcel O financing was in my spam folder. Just not my day.

Hampton Inn is saying Dec. 17 on its web site.

I get scolded for spilling development beans. Smh

JD says: (12/10/15 9:23 PM)
SWag, you have my apologies. Truly.

SWag says: (12/10/15 10:00 PM)
No, no, no. I'm jk!!! I wanted to spill the beans though! :)

I prefer your renditions over WBJ anyday!! I'll wait...

SWag says: (12/10/15 10:04 PM)
I'm laughing thinking about your tip-toe, marriage, delicate balance comments, as I'm writing this from my honeymoon!!!

(Yes, I'm checking your blog daily on my honeymoon incase you've seen views from Guadeloupe or now Martinique!)

JD says: (12/10/15 10:10 PM)
As always, the first step is admitting you have a problem. :)

Plus, it's important to remember that when you think of JDLand, you think of the helpful relationship counseling offered here.

Mazeltov!

Philz did a great pop up at Bluejacket on Wednesday. They will be a great addition to the neighborhood.

JD says: (12/11/15 11:49 AM)
Just now reading the WBJ piece, which is completely wrong about "east half of the parcel," acting like this is all one parcel with 1244 South Capitol. A quick look at a map would have made clear that Van Street runs between them--they are on different blocks.

JES says: (12/11/15 2:57 PM)
So I guess with the first buildings on the JBG side of Half street not delivering until "end of 2018," there's no chance they're done by the all star game. It'll still be one giant construction zone. Bummer.

Westnorth says: (12/11/15 3:32 PM)
Wow, West Half looks like it will have a great combination of distinctive architecture and just the sort of large-format retail spaces that will bring anchor retailers to Half Street. Plus, of the MLB stadiums, only San Diego currently has condos overlooking the field.

Hearty congratulations to our neighbor SWag!

VelocityChris says: (12/12/15 9:00 AM)
Maybe we can trade years with the 2019 stadium so we can finish up?!

JD says: (12/12/15 9:13 AM)
At least if they are delivering late 2018, by July 2018 the exteriors should be finished, and I imagine they'll get leaned on to have the Half Street sidewalk/streetscapes completed. It shouldn't be holes in the ground and cranes.

Tom says: (12/12/15 9:12 PM)
WAPO's on its last legs.

JD says: (12/13/15 10:03 AM)
Tom has become the Mr. Sunshine of the comments thread, a position vacant since Zoo was banned.

JD says: (12/13/15 5:50 PM)
Also, be aware that any attempt at Star Wars/Force Awakens spoilers will result in an immediate banning.

E. Masquinongy says: (12/14/15 9:39 AM)
does that mean non-sequiturs into foreign policy and military spending are ok?

JD says: (12/14/15 9:41 AM)
OBAMA
