 I'm minding my own business, walking around taking photos despite the clouds and haze to escape the torture of the Wimbledon men's final, and I turn north from Diamond Teague Park to find.... The trucks were all lined up on N Street as well, and clearly the word was out, because a woman rolled down the window on her tween-filled minivan to tell me that "TAYLOR IS HERE." I didn't see her, but I assume she arrived in better accommodations than one of these 18-wheelers. For those not tracking this event minute-by-minute, there are two shows, on Monday and Tuesday nights (July 13 and 14). The gates open at 5 pm, and the show starts at 7 pm. Here's the Nats Park page listing all the items concert-goers should know in advance.

I wonder if Nats Park gets any noise complaints the next two nights. Didn't that happen the last time some boy band was in town and all the tweens were screaming so loud that SW residents on the other side of South Capitol had to close their windows?! Regardless, I'll steer clear of that end of the neighborhood for the next couple of nights!

@conngs0: Yes-- when One Direction played last year, nearly all of the residents of our building (us includeded) shut our windows within a minute of the concert starting. You could hear all of the windows closed in unison.

Not to sound like a huge NIMBY but I have never seen traffic (not that it matters, since we don't have a car) as bad as it is after the concert tonight. It looks like not a single person attending the concert took metro, let alone Capitol Bikeshare.

I can attest that there were tons of teenaged young ladies on the subway this evening--perhaps the bad traffic was many of them being picked up at the ballpark by their parents, instead of "risking" a ride back home on Metro.

WMATA's blog has a post ( link about the travel patterns for the Taylor Swift concert compared with travel to/from Nats games. Attendance was both higher and fewer people used transit (20% for the concert vs. 33% for the Nats games) for the Taylor Swift concert. I would think there is an even greater shift for Capitol Bikeshare, Circulator, etc... with the Taylor Swift concert.

Thanks for sharing, 202. I guess that difference makes sense if the Taylor Swift concert drew from a wider geographical area, causing several people to decide to drive. And the concert almost certainly drew a significant number of people who had never been to the neighborhood before and thus may not have been aware of how accessible the stadium is via public transportation or bikeshare.
