 Sliding from Before to After

CSX has put out the word that there will be two utility relocation sites related to the Virginia Avenue Tunnel project gearing up starting on Monday, April 20, or thereabouts:
* Traffic lanes on 4th Street SE between the westbound lanes of Virginia Avenue and I Street will "temporarily shift to accommodate utility relocation work." The work will happen between 7 am and 7 pm on weekdays only and is expected to last about two months. "Some parking spaces will be temporarily occupied during the work period to accommodate lane shifts."
* There will also be utility relocation work under the Southeast Freeway in the "ad hoc recreation area," that little pass-through popular with the skateboard kidz where you can walk from 2nd Street under the overpass and into Garfield Park. "Access to the area will be limited during construction hours and visitors are encouraged to be cautious when traveling near the area." There's also the note that in the coming weeks "this work will extend into the intersection of 2nd Street S.E. and Virginia Avenue."
If you wish to discuss any of this with CSX, there will be an open house on April 23 from 4:30 to 7:30 pm at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel at 140 L St. SE. There's also expanded hours at the CSX community office on New Jersey Avenue: it's now open from 7 am to noon Mondays and Wednesdays and noon to 8 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can also contact them by e-mail, phone, or web.
I wrote a few months ago about the initial construction plans, under which "utility relocation" qualifies.

That shit went through. Please delete it. It meant for frustration toward your unresponsive and a year of 2000 website.

JD says: (4/22/15 10:22 AM)
No, I think I'll leave it there to just brighten my day every time I look at it.

It also helps push me along as I decide whether I even want to keep bothering anymore.

2010er says: (4/22/15 2:43 PM)
Registered just so I could leave a comment of thanks and encouragement. Thank you so much for the time you've put into the neighborhood and keeping its residents informed. My wife and I hope you don't stop, but can completely understand that with people like Zoolander it might just not be worth it anymore.

JD says: (4/22/15 3:43 PM)
Thanks, I do appreciate it, and I know that most people (whose screen names don't begin with Z) are patient and understanding.

The support folks finally issued the edict that the other bad performers on the server had cleaned up their code, and so everything should be fixed--and I got the 503 error the first time I hit the site after that. Sigh. So now it'll be once again trying to convince them that something is really wrong. Still.

In the meantime my Google Analytics stats are all screwed up (any regular visitors who feel like deleting their cookies and cache to help with that, you'd have my deepest appreciation).

But I'm not boycotting passing along news right now--there just really hasn't been anything after the flurry of late March and early April.

I've also got a huge project at work that is occupying a lot of my focus right now, plus some personal-life things that also have me concentrating on other topics.

I'm not giving up on the site this minute, but I also can't guarantee that the problems are going to be fixed lickety split. Just too many hurdles right now.

SWag says: (4/22/15 3:43 PM)
you may not have a lot of traffic, but you have a cult following - if that counts for anything...

JD says: (4/22/15 3:43 PM)
(That said, I feel like I'm getting fewer errors than a few weeks ago, although they still do crop up once in a while.)

coffeexdrinker says: (4/22/15 4:11 PM)
I'm with SWag and 2010er! You provide an invaluable service to the neighborhood. As it grows, so will your following. Which hopefully won't put too much strain on your server, ;-)

If there are ways we can continue supporting you, let us know!

Thank you for all the work you do. It's incredibly important to all who care about and live in this growing, exciting part of the city we call home.

JD says: (4/22/15 4:49 PM)
Other than Zoo, are you guys seeing the 503 error a lot still?

BLT says: (4/22/15 9:00 PM)
No 503 error for about a week...

r_rudd says: (4/23/15 8:38 AM)
I also want to express my appreciation for what you do. As a follower since 2006, this site has really changed my life (not an exaggeration). I began working in the 'hood in 2007 and was fortunate enough to be able to move here in 2011. I probably wouldn't have known about the CQ housing lottery without this site...and wouldn't have the luxury of a two-block commute by foot. My overly eager desire for MORE NEWS may be contributing to server problems due to frequent site loading. You're a gem!
And, I haven't seen errors in a while.

Packinblackandred says: (4/23/15 9:31 AM)
Chiming in, this is a wonderful site and service! It's so good to be able to get this information and stay on top of developments. I haven't had any errors for a week or so either.

JD says: (4/23/15 9:54 AM)
I really appreciate all the kind words, truly. I would like to believe that the few errors in the past week are a harbinger, but the much lower traffic could be part of the reason. But with Zoo's pronouncement yesterday, clearly they are not completely gone.

Maybe I'll try to dig up some news in the next couple of days, now that I've been reminded there are people actually out there. :-)

coffeexdrinker says: (4/23/15 9:54 AM)
I've seen some errors, but I also recognize I need to clear my cache. I can't easily on my work computer right now, though.

JD says: (4/23/15 10:00 AM)
The errors are so weird. I've had times where I'd be getting them in Chrome and then would open up IE and the site would load fine, while still not loading in Chrome. I really still think it's a configuration issue with the server--but I'm also starting to fear that I really am going to have to change hosting companies, which is just such an incredible hassle.

JES says: (4/23/15 12:35 PM)
First, Garber and his Facebook posts left us. I don't know what we'd all do if you left us too!!

JD says: (4/23/15 1:00 PM)
There is a new site at a new company in the works.

JD says: (4/23/15 3:57 PM)
And if you are seeing this comment, you are on the new site! Let me know when you've "arrived," so I know how the DNS propagation is going.

(This hosting company was offering the first 30 days free, so I decided to take the plunge. Fingers crossed that we will be back to some level of normalcy.)

coffeexdrinker says: (4/23/15 8:52 PM)
It works for me!! Not a single issue - and honestly, loaded faster than I've seen it in a very long time.

JD says: (4/23/15 9:07 PM)
:-)

nairobs says: (4/24/15 9:05 AM)
Works great for me too.

JD says: (4/24/15 9:08 AM)
We'll see what happens once there's actually some heavy traffic, but at the moment I am cautiously optimistic.

I must say, it would be nice to not hold my breath every time I load a page on my site.

JNB says: (4/24/15 9:40 AM)
No issues.

conngs0 says: (4/24/15 10:52 AM)
Works well for me. Thanks for the persistence with the technical issues associated with providing such comprehensive and valuable content, JD!

Sally M says: (4/24/15 9:53 PM)
Working beautifully for me. Count me in on the cult following…

coffeexdrinker says: (4/26/15 9:13 PM)
Out of curiosity, did anyone attend Thursday night's meeting? I ended up at work till later than expected. Any insights?
