 Page Through from Before to After

For those who drive to Nationals Park, I've made the initial updates on my Stadium Parking Lots page for the 2015 season.
There's no getting around the fact that parking is going to be tighter this year, thanks to the following:
* Lot F at 1st and M, and the cash lot that sprouted immediately to its south last year, are both gone, thanks to the beginning of construction on Ballpark Square, the large residential/hotel/retail project.
* Season ticket holders' Lot P in the garage of 1015 Half Street has exited the inventory thanks to the fact that the building is finally starting to get tenants. (And Bonchon!)
* The cash lot at Half and M is no more, because construction has just started on a Homewood Suites hotel.
* Also gone is the cash lot at New Jersey and I, where work is now underway on a new apartment building.
(Are you sensing a pattern?)
One bright spot in the offing, though--a 220-space lot will return to the northeast corner of 1st and N on the former Spooky Building 213 site, but it still has to be built--they are hoping it'll be done later this summer.
I have confirmed that the cash lots at South Capitol and M, South Capitol and N, and the two Yards lots on N and Tingey streets will be available this year. But confirmation on some of the other cash lots--especially the ones on the west side of South Capitol--will have to wait until this weekend or Opening Day. (Any and all intel on these lots will be much appreciated!)
Also watch for lots of construction around the neighborhood, with some street parking eliminated (but you weren't using that anyway, RIGHT?). And the walk from your lot to the ballpark might require tiptoeing around some closed sidewalks, especially on the west side of 1st Street south of M.
As for getting to the stadium, note that, if you use Maine Avenue in Southwest to get to the ballpark, the construction at the Wharf may impact your route--plus it has done quite a number on the asphalt along there.
Finally, if you use South Capitol Street alongside the ballpark, keep it to 25 mph, because there are currently speed cameras set up in both directions.
Check the parking page for more information.

Good thing Metro is so reliable...

One positive is that the number of pre and post game entertainment options in the neighborhood continues to grow. So while there will always be traffic immediately before and after games, hopefully the number of folks who get to the neighborhood early and stay a bit later increases to the point that it takes the edge off of the inevitable logjams.

Good info as always JD.

By the way, is there current data on what percentage of game goers drive/take metro?

JES says: (4/2/15 11:36 AM)
Even though 1015 Half exited the official inventory, I wonder if they'll be letting people park there and managing it themselves, kind of like the BAE building does.

@Jaybird, I found a study on this a while ago that compared the transit share of every MLB park, but I can't for the life of me find it again. If I remember correctly, the Nats were definitely near the top of that list, but I don't remember the percentage.

JD says: (4/2/15 11:40 AM)
@JES, true, I should have thought of that. Will have to see.

Probably didn't think of it because a friend of mine works part-time at CBS Radio and has to park in the "new" part of the Half and I surface lot (which apparently has a contract with CBS), since apparently not all employees get to park in the building. So I wonder if at least, as of now, there's no public parking mechanism in place at 1015 Half. (I haven't thought to look for that before now, but I'll check.

This is going to be a mess, but at least it will be only be for a few seasons perhaps till everything gets settled.

JES says: (4/2/15 12:25 PM)
@JD, it could also be that it was a lot cheaper for CBS to contract with an outdoor service lot to provide employee parking rather than with an underground garage. I wouldn't blame them in the slightest for that.

JES says: (4/2/15 12:25 PM)
*surface lot, not service lot. Derp.

JD says: (4/2/15 12:29 PM)
CBS definitely has employee parking in the garage--just not for the plebes. :-)

JES says: (4/2/15 1:57 PM)
I would imagine that it works that way at a lot of large companies. The higher-ups get the nicer spots.

@Jaybird, et al:

Approximately 1/3 of Nationals attendees take metro-rail to Nats Park: link . This could undercount it, however, as WMATA only looked at Cap. South and the Navy Yard-Ballpark stations, and surely some people take the Red line to Union Station and transfer to the Circulator and some fans probably also walk from the Eastern Mkt metro station.

Hopefully fewer surface lots encourages both more transit ridership this season and more people to walk/bike to the games.

@JES:

Any DOT employee can park in the headquarters building on nights/weekends.
