 Sliding from Before to After

Cold enough for ya?
Looking to do something to pass the time while it's cold?
Want to be even colder?
Want to have fun while being cold?
Want to do stuff to warm up while being cold?
If you're 21 or older and answered "Why, yes!" to any of the above questions, head down to the Yards Park on Saturday, Jan. 17 for Ice Yards, billed as the "ice version" of the big Splash Yards party last summer.
With a "ski chalet vibe," the shindig will run from 2 to 6 pm and is slated to have ice bars, a "frosty beer garden," a DJ, live music, a "ski lounge," fire pits, hot tubs, "Absolut Snow Cones" (SOLD!), and interactive winter-themed video games.
The forecast for Saturday currently calls for a bit of a warm-up, to around 45 degrees, but if that temperature was cold enough to hold the NHL Winter Classic, I'm sure it'll be fine for a party.
It's free, but give them an RSVP at EventBrite or on Facebook if you think you're going (1,800 of your closest friends have already clicked "Yes").

Of possible interest-- Forest City is converting to a REIT and its stock is soaring today.

Hopefully it's not like the Splash Yards nonsense where the line for a drink was 40 minutes long.

@202, so does that have the potential to affect anything they're doing down here? Or is it strictly for tax purposes? I'm not that familiar with how these things work.

@JES:

With a corporate structure as a REIT that will pay dividends, the Forest City stock will probably become more attractive to potential investors. A stronger stock price and having more capital will likely make financing easier for Forest City.

JES says: (1/21/15 10:51 AM)
Ahh, so it's probably good news then!

Anyone else try to go to this and just give up? The lines to even get in were astronomical. I think when they do these damn things in the future, they need to use more of the park so they can actually accommodate everyone who wants to go.

JES-- we attended a wedding on Sat. afternoon instead but it did look like huge crowds were coming to the neighborhood to attend this.

HillNow tweeted (and I RT'ed) this photo of the line to get in:

On the subject of "ice", looks like there's a Travelzoo coupon for skate rentals at Canal Park for anyone who's interested:

link

It cannot be redeemed on Fridays or Saturdays, but otherwise looks like a good deal for anyone looking to get in a little skating during the final months of winter!

Bar patios were even overflowing with people who couldn't get in... it was like 30 degrees out and people were eating outside because all the insides were jammed with overflow. Was kind of crazy.
