Page Through from Before to After

It's mere hours until the official opening of 100 Montaditos at the Boilermaker Shops in the Yards, but a lucky few (including myself) have gotten the chance this evening to step inside, check out the atmosphere, and sample the menu.
As part of its Grand Opening, there will be a "Dollarmania" promotion from Thursday through Sunday, Dec. 14, with all Montaditos sandwiches selling for $1. There will also be $2 beers and sangria and $3 premium beer and wine during the restaurant's first 100 days.
(In case you are wondering, at left is a sample of the Classic Sangria, along with sandwiches 07, 10, and 63.)
It will be open daily from 11 am to 10 pm.
If you are wondering about the whole "Montadito" thing, it is a small warm roll with options for a wide variety of ingredients, making it easy to eat in the very Spanish way of tasting lots of different recipes. But there's more than just the sandwiches on the menu, including salads, appetizers, and other Spanish items.
While I do not fancy myself a food critic, I will venture to say that the bread does indeed appear to be a highlight.
I did not have the Official JDLand Camera in hand, so these blurry cellphone shots will have to do until you visit yourself. And chances are you will run into Mr. JDLand, who is strategizing his approach to trying all 100 Montaditos.

I wasn't kidding about Mr. JDLand's quest:

That montadito blog amuses me. I'll probably keep reading it, if for no other reason than it'll help me decide which ones to avoid.

Sandwiches 07, 10, and 63: now, THAT sounds appetizing!!

Is this just more hipster nonsense, or am I missing something....

JD says: (12/11/14 2:15 PM)
There's 100 sandwiches on the menu, and you order them by number. I don't think that's exactly a new hipster conceit.

FedInExile says: (12/11/14 2:52 PM)
OK, but if you tell me you just had sandwiches 07, 10, and 63, even if I've eaten there many times, odds are that I will still have no idea what it was that you ate, and liked/disliked as the case may be. It just seems needlessly uncommunicative, and it may hint at the fact that trying to offer 100 different food items may not turn out to be very practical, as most people will probably settle on a few favorites. I know the food biz is all about "concepts" now, but as a food consumer, I find this particular concept to be a bit off-putting. Of course, once I figure out what my favorites turn out to be, then it won't even matter any more.

JD says: (12/11/14 2:55 PM)
Wow, um, okay. I was just having a bit of fun, not feeling like saying specifically which food choices I made.

FedInExile says: (12/11/14 4:38 PM)
I join in chuckling in the concept of Sandwiches 07, 10, and 63. Mr. JDLand's quest to go 1 - 100 sounds very adventurous....I could never do that.

Given my personal dietary restrictions, would you say that the food was particularly spicy? Having tried Nando's Peri Peri and Kruba Thai (both quite good food, but much too spicy for me), I now know to be careful.

How big are the sandwiches? How many would constitute a good lunch portion? I couldn't really tell from the photos.

JD says: (12/11/14 6:10 PM)
On the spicy-ness, it totally depends on what you order. It certainly won't be uniformly spicy.

I think three sandwiches (plus the potato chips they give you) is a not-small not-large lunch. I could see a hungry person eating 4 or 5.

In the BID newsletter out today, the photo of 100 Montaditos has the instantly recognizeable hunched figure of Mr. JDLand at front and center:

On another note, did Big Stick open today, as Urbandaddy said they were supposed to? Anyone know?

@FedInExile - this isn't a new hipster sandwich shop, it's an actual Spanish chain with locations all around Spain: link
