As to whether it *will* open Friday at 5, well, we'll see!
Willie's is located on the west end of the Boilermaker Shops, at 3rd and Tingey streets, SE.
If you want to read about the long road to this point, have at it.
In other food news, TaKorean is now going to be open on Sundays from 11 to 7.
UPDATE: In non-food Boilermaker Shops news, the Yards folks also tweeted that Unleashed by Petco is scheduled to open Nov. 3.

Interesting. I wonder if they'll actually be open tomorrow, as originally stated on their FB page, but they didn't want the huge crowds so had the Yards folks give them an extra day.

Definitely a soft open today. I walked by around 7, but they were out of food; they were handing out menus and said they'd be open tomorrow for another soft open.

We went opening night (sometimes not a good move) but we were impressed by the food, friendly service and atmosphere/decor. Entrees were all tasty, as were the sides (mac n cheese esp.). If you like BBQ, you should check this place out.

Finally made it over to Willie's today for lunch. The ribs and the mac n cheese were both excellent! Also, the smoked ice is not all hype - it definitely adds a little bit to the bourbon. I've found the sit-down restaurants in the neighborhood to be mediocre at best, but this place is legit. I'll be returning to Willie's for sure.

I'm sad to say I haven't tried Masala Art yet, but it's on the list of places to try. I also have yet to try out Rose's Luxury, but I think if it's half as good as it's been hyped, then it wins the aware for best in the general neighborhood, right?

You mentioned Osteria Morini. The good experiences I've had there (and I can't say I've had a terrible experience there either) involved occasions when I wasn't particularly hungry and thus stopped by for a glass of wine or two and split a few crostini with friends. For a more substantive Italian meal, I'd much prefer Acqua Al 2 up in Eastern Market.

Of the restaurants in the immediate Navy Yard neighborhood, I don't entirely dislike (although I struggle to find good things to say about Kruba, whereas I know I'll enjoy Park Tavern's rueben if I have to go there). I just don't find myself leaving these restaurants thinking about the next time I'll get a chance to visit again, or getting excited about bringing friends there. I actually think that in terms of consistency across the menu, Aqua 301 does a solid job. But even then, I'm never itching to take friends there. I can't wait to bring some friends over to Willie's to try those ribs (and also so I can try some of the other menu items). It strikes me as premature to put that establishment on the top of the list after just one visit, but it's definitely up there.

Back to your original question about the greater SE/SW area, and recognizing that I'm probably in the minority on this, my favorite place in the vicinity is Senart's. I still don't understand why they took the prime rib off the menu, but I consistently have excellent meals there. A very close second for me is Belga. I've been a fan for years (since 2005?). And while I suspect some of my love for this restaurant is due to nostalgia from the great meals I had before, it still does a good job.

Anyway, I could write about food for hours, but I'll spare everyone that and wrap this up. In the meantime, there are a few spots on Barracks Row I haven't tried though, I'm always up for suggestions.
