I was lucky enough to get invited one of the dry runs that Gordon Biersch is holding over the next few days to prepare the staff for their April 1 opening (because, with 40,000 Nats fans descending on the neighborhood, Biersch might get a bit of business). And they allowed me to take a pile of photos. I'll include the money shot here:
There's one more day of test seatings on Friday, and then a VIP reception on Saturday.
It's a pretty dang big space. Definitely a completely new experience in the neighborhood!

The rotating taps are good news. The word on Gordon Biersch, oddly enough, has always been that the beer is a weak point.

The current slate of rotating taps has a nice emphasis on local breweries, with DC Brau, Mad Fox, Port City, and Cap City represented. I hope it stays that way.

@SoChill, the problem with GB's beers is that they're all lager-style. So if you don't like lagers, you're out of luck. I personally think their beer is fine (again, if you like lagers), and the majority of their beers have a lighter feel to them, which will match quite well with the dog days of summer baseball. We'll have bluejacket soon to fill the heavy/strong beer void though!

I got no problem with lagers, but, yeah, I did notice the strong light slant on the beer list. I haven't had much success in my limited foray into Biersch beers, but I'm keeping an open mind and looking forward to the samplers.

I disagree, GB has always brewed a nice quality beer, far superior to the Crap City (sic) beers that sadly represented DC's only real microbrew offerings for such a long time.

Remember that the beers are both rotating and seasonal so the current offerings represent the "summer" choices which are obviously going to be lighter in nature. GB has a very nice Maibock that might not be on tap now but the Marzen is usually available year round and neither of those will ever be mistaken for "light."

Their beers are in the German / Czech tradition (pils, bocks, hefeweizens) so those of you who like your beer so hoppy and bitter that your hair curls will have to go elsewhere, that's just not their niche. Can't be everything to everyone! Plus the food quality at other GB outposts has been several clicks above the (admittedly low) bar set by Cap City and most other brewery / restaurant combos.

Normal opening time is 11 am, but they'll be opening at 10 am on Monday

Good to know Biersch isn't going the hop bomb route. It's gotten to the point that whenever I go to a place with more than three taps, I gotta ask, "What's your least hoppy beer that isn't Miller Genuine Draft?"

Any reviews from GB's opening day?

I saw an employee of the restaurant heading home last night, and he looked exhausted! Congratulations to the restaurant in getting up and running in time for the first day of baseball season, but overcoming the inevitable glitches on the first day of real business with those crowds must've been quite harrowing to say the least!
