A press release sent out this morning says that "fast-growing international chicken restaurant" Nando's Peri-Peri will be coming to the Boilermaker Shops at the Yards, with an expected opening in June of this year. It will be the restaurant's 12th US location, including the one on 7th Street NW in Chinatown and eight others in the DC area.
Nando's would join planned restaurants Bluejacket brewery, Buzz Bakery, and Willie's Brew and 'Que, along with opening-any-second-now Wells Cleaners at the Boilermaker Shops.
If you haven't tried it, "Nando's is known worldwide for its succulent Peri-Peri chicken, marinated for 24 hours, flame-grilled to perfection, and basted to the customer’s preferred flavor and spice."
The press release did not come from Forest City, but they have confirmed the lease.
(And props to reader Jaybird who had this rumor a few months ago, and mentioned it in a recent JDLand comment thread.)

I mentioned back in the Agua announcement post that it appeared that the Huey's lease had fallen through. And the banner disappeared soon after.

I like this, Nando's is a great quick and casual meal.

I walked by the other day, and it doesn't appear that Bluejacket or Buzz are on track to open any time soon.

Have you been by Bluejacket since their equipment started arriving? Their building permit was approved a week or so ago, and the stuff is arriving. Their head guy told Esquire he's expecting a May opening.

Willie's, who knows. I'm guessing, now that the Hawk n Dove is open, that Xavier will turn his attentions back to Park Tavern and Willie's.

Re: Willie's, I just don't understand the reasoning behind delaying work on an opening... the lease started when Forest City finished construction/rehab of the building, right? So they're already paying rent, presumably? Why wouldn't you want to open as soon as possible, rent can't possibly be that cheap in that building. Same for Park Tavern, when you think about it

I'm guessing he was stretched pretty thin (which would also tie in with "selling" his restaurants, or getting a new investor, or whatever it is, since he's still involved). Just may not have had the money and/or resources to do all of them at once (but enough resources to at least be paying the rents). Maybe bit off more than he could chew.

Caveat (no pun intended!) emptor, as the Peri-Peri menu notes, "even plain is mildly spicy."

Will definitely be psyched when these places open up. The area around the Yards Park and the Boilermaker Shops is going to be great during the summer - even during non-game days.
