There's been a lot of positive news in the neighborhood of late, but news today from Canal Park will be disappointing to many residents and observers: Because of "major underground obstacles" that weren't found until workers started digging, the park's underground storm water system is having to be completely redesigned and then approved by DC Water.
According to Chris Vanarsdale of the Canal Park Development Association, this has bumped the schedule by about four months, and November 1 is now the expected completion date. (Just in time for ice skating!)
Canal Park is of course also where Xavier Cevera's Park Tavern restaurant is anticipated to open, which means that its opening would be pushed back as well.

Shame, but this is the nature of the construction game. Honestly, construction delays don't concern me that much. Financing delays do. I'm disappointed, but will get over it. I would be surprised if the Boilermaker shops finish on time.

Considering how poorly run DC has been for the last 40-50 years, it's no surprise things are buried under the streets that nobody is aware of. This is a minor hiccup that I suspect several projects will encounter over the coming years of improvement.

Silver Lining....we won't expect much snow this year so at least we'll have ice skating by Christmas. There are always delays in construction and things happen that our out of control and I for one would rather have it done right or not done at all.


We'll be fine as long as the delay isn't because of....zombies.

Xavier is saying fall for Willie's, but until you see fixtures going into a space, expected opening dates should be looked at very skeptically. As we've just seen.

Speaking of construction delays, it's been like two weeks since anything has been done on the Harris Teeter lot. There was lots of action right at first, then suddenly nada. Hope it's nothing major!
