DDOT has announced the "First Semi-Annual DC Circulator Public Forum," with Near Southeast residents hitting the jackpot since it's being held at the Courtyard by Marriott at New Jersey and L, SE. It's scheduled for Thursday, March 17, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm, and the release says it will cover topics "including potential changes to the span of the Union Station-Navy Yard route."
In subsequent tweets over the past few days, the Circulator folks have expanded on that, saying that they'll be talking about extending the hours on the route until 9 pm Mondays through Saturdays during the baseball season (April-September), and that it may be paid for by ending the weekend-only service on the Mall. (Other tweets hint that the National Park Service may eventually "support" a Mall route using Madison and Jefferson drives.)
They asked for feedback: would there be support in the neighborhood for running the buses until 9 pm? Is there another service improvement you'd rather see in place of that?

Just speaking personally (not pretending to represent everybody in the neighborhood) I would *love* it if the circulator ran later. Often my fiance and I are debating if/where to go out to dinner. If we could take the circulator home instead of a cab, we would be hitting the Barracks Row restaurants much more often.

Are there enough people like me in the neighborhood to support this change? I don't know. But I personally would be very grateful.

I agree! My partner and I are big fans of the Circulator and wish it ran on evenings and weekends to provide better access to Barracks Row. Capital Bikeshare has great in this regard, but sometimes it's preferable to hop on the Circulator instead.

wish the discussion would consider changing the route as it leaves eastern market to head to union station. instead of going all the way up penn av, the circulator could go up 6th St NE/Mass Ave toward Union Sta. of course that would mean going down 4th St or some other route when it's navy yard-bound. this would seem to connect a greater portion of the cap hill neighborhood to the riverfront/ballpark/navy yard area. but perhaps logistics would be a problem.

Yes, yes, yes, this is great news. Any chance they'll discuss lengthening the route so that it terminates at the new Safeway at 4th and M SW?

I too have thought it would be great to have the route continue from Navy Yard west along M Street to 4th and M SW. The Circulator could then go north on 4th and then head east on I Street to New Jersey, where it would eventually pick up its current route. For those of us working or living around 4th and M, who have limited restaurant options, it would make it easier to get to the Barracks Row restaurants at lunch time. Now, it requires taking two Metro trains to get to Eastrn Market from here. Another advantage of extending the route to 4th and M is that this Circulator would link up with the Convention Center - Waterfront route.

Exactly; it would also immensely cut down on the number of people who drive from the .5 miles from Jefferson/Axiom/909/Velocity etc to the grocery store. We are car-less and don't mind the walk but sometimes things get heavy. With the new restaurant opening this summer across from the Safeway, I can only imagine that this would be win-win for them as well.

The 9pm closing and Saturday service during the baseball season would be great changes. I assume that Sunday service would also be in the cards on gamedays?

I really like the idea of extending the route to 4th & M SW.

I'll be at the meeting on the 17th to share with them my feedback. The circulator provides an important service for our neighborhood. The city bus is awful and forget about getting anywhere efficiently on the metro with their perpetual construction and delays. Nice to see an option where the service seems to be improving.

Hi Jason--

I think the wording from DDOT is a bit vague--there's always been Saturday and Sunday service on game days (just not all day). Maybe now what they're saying is that they're willing to run Saturday service during the spring/summer months until 9 pm, whether it's a game day or not (and probably later than 9 pm on game day Saturdays where the game is a 7:30 pm start, as most are).
