Page Through from Before to After
A Sunday morning checklist: Variably sunny? Check. Temperature 22 degrees? Check. Winds 15-20 mph? Check. Then clearly it was time to walk around taking the photos I forgot to take last week. Signage is up on both New Jersey Avenue and I Street for Harry's Reserve, the upscale wine and spirits store coming to the ground floor of 909 New Jersey, and a peek inside shows a big space with lots of dark wood cabinets. Don't know if they'll hit their Feb. 1 target date for opening, but they do look like they're in the homestretch. Meanwhile, the framing is done and exterior walls are starting to go up at Little Red Building v2.0 (or Lot 38 Espresso, which is apparently the new new name), and it's interesting to see that the profile of the new building is pretty similar to the old one--maybe it'll be like an actress of a Certain Age, getting rebuilt from the ground up while trying to not look like she's had any work done. No timeline at this point for when the shop might open. UPDATE: I heard from Lot 38's owner today, saying that he's now looking toward an April opening for the coffee/sandwich shop. I also took a pretty full series of photos of 225 Virginia (soon to be 200 I), not to document any changes but to get what might be a final set of "before" images, since the word had been that construction was supposed to start in December, and then January. (There are a few piles of construction fencing now on site, but I wouldn't expect work to be truly imminent until that firetruck parked on site at 3rd and I disappears.) You can browse the entire batch of Sunday's photos, clicking on the icon to pair any shot with its "before" image. There's also last week's new photos, in case you missed them, showing the progress at Capitol Quarter, 1015 Half, and the Foundry Lofts.

I am excited about the liquor store. I usually go to Justin's, whenever I don't feel like going any other part of DC. Once Harry place is open, I can go and get some drinks and hang in with my friends at my place. I can't stand Justin's..from their overpriced drinks, terrible food and mediocre service.
G says: (1/25/11 10:48 AM)
@Toby Wow! Decaf = STAT Upside-down mortgage? There's always Subway Sandwich Shop, if Justin's is not your cup of brew. I hear Jared the Subway Guy eats there every day!
BD says: (1/25/11 11:03 AM)
Didn't like Justin's at first, but the pizza is pretty good, the Honey BBQ wings are outstanding, and the beer selection (while limited) is top notch. The service is a little meh, sometimes takes some effort on my part to get things rolling, but it's a decent place.
Toby says: (1/25/11 11:22 AM)
@Toby..I don't need to go to Justin's or Subway to get my food. I am a great cook and I eat at home most of the time. But, I have ordered Pizza a few times and all i got was a pizza that took an hour and burned one. I also tried the wings and it tasted like popcorn. I know I take my food seriously but I have also heard the same complains from other people about Justin food and over priced drinks and shitty services.
I take it that you are a regular customer who eats there every day. Perhaps, you should try subway...they have better sandwich than Justin's.

Justin's is awful. Absolutely, 100 percent, undisputed, without a doubt, simply awful. I don't mind the walk to 8th Street, SE so that is where I go for dinner a couple times a week. Of course, with this weather recently, I would have preferred something a little closer (maybe with the Boilermaker shops opening). Actually, it just caused me to eat in more the past few weeks so I saved some money and ate healthier. Trust me, I love Near SE, and wish, seriously hoped, that I would like Justin's. I just can't stand the food, beer, or service. And, I have gotten sick twice eating there (waking up a 1 AM to get sick). There is something seriously wrong with either the distributor or the way they are handling / processing the food. My friend from work was picking me up the other day and wanted to walk somewhere to lunch (we had previously been to Cornercopia and he wanted something different). Well, he saw Justin's was close and I just couldn't do it to him(so, we ended up driving to Tortilla Coast which was great).

While construction may not have 'started' on 200 I St - over the last month or so there have been a lot of new 'windows' pop-up around the building and you can peek into the building in a few spots and there is definitely some type of work going on in there
Sophia says: (1/26/11 11:27 AM)
If anyone wants to invest in a banana stand for the Yards Park this summer, holler at me.
Andrew in DC says: (1/26/11 8:13 PM)
There's always money in the banana stand...
MJM says: (1/29/11 4:51 PM)
After seeing 10% of the east side of 200 I St removed (near the firetruck), I'd have to say construction has started. If it isn't construction I'm not sure what folks would call the removing of the building's skin.....
