 Sliding from Before to After

From TBD.com's On Foot blog, the news from that DDOT director Gabe Klein and his staff have spent some time watching the traffic at First and M, where two trucks have struck pedestrians this year, killing one of them. The article says:
"They noticed that 'trucks coming north on First Street are just not stopping' when they make the right onto M Street, [DDOT spokesman John] Lisle says. 'They maybe take a quick glance, and they're really just making that right turn without a full stop.' That's the intersection where a pedestrian was hit by a dump truck last week. Lisle says they now plan on making right-on-red illegal at that corner from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
"'That area is still pretty industrialized, even though a lot of people live there and work there,' Lisle says, adding that a couple of asphalt companies are based in the neighborhood. 'There are still a lot of trucks circulating right through.'
"Lisle says the city will probably deploy some mobile speed display signs along M Street as well."

That is a nice start - now to work the other "interior"/side streets

Sadly, it will most likely take a casualty at one of those intersections to warrant change.

Anyone who has even casually paid attention to DC driving habits will realize that any no turn on red signage will be ignored.

As well as No Left Turn. S Capitol and I St SE, anyone? MPD is the worst offender at this intersection.

AGREE with no left turn at S. Capitol and I Street SE!! That one is awful, and it's true that MPD is one of the worst... the signs on I St going east indicate:

from the right lane, you can turn right
from the middle lane, you can either go right or straight

Seems like the intentions were pretty clear when they put those signs in - nothing about a left turn in there. There's no "No Left Turn" sign, but there needs to be. If they don't want to put that there, at least put a turn arrow. Somehow the people turning left always seem to think they have the right of way.

I really just want all-way stop signs at the corners along L and K Streets... NJ & K especially. The cars just tear right through.

Don't you know BD? Silly things like traffic regulations and laws don't apply to COPS... let alone good sense and decency. They're important people, with important places to be!

I can think of better things to wake-up to but seeing a policeman at the corner of 1st and L St pulling over a stop-sign runner was a very nice sight to see this morning.
