Page Through from Before to After

From the BID's latest newsletter: "Mark your calendars for the Yards Park Grand Opening weekend on Friday, Sept. 10 - Sunday, Sept. 12th! Join us to kick off the opening of the 5.5 acre world-class riverfront park, where celebrations will include live music, a variety of food and drinks, fitness classes, children's activities, and much more!" More details to come, they say.
You can see the photos I took of the park's progress back in late May, along with more details on the park's design--hopefully I'll get to take some more before too long.

Since this site is all about reporting the "news" the road between 3rd and I and 3rd and Virginia is closed due to an electrical wire down onto the roadway.

great news! this park is going to do wonders for the neighborhood.

Big fight outside of the Marriott bar a minute ago, but I was too slow with my videocamera unfortunately.

I assume it was Phillies fans since we just played against Philadelphia, althought I can't confirm that since I didn't see any puking on children, tasing, throwing of snowballs, or inappropriate cheering at a potentially injured opponent.

Work on the park is full steam this morning, most workers I've seen at the site in some time. very exciting news - progress... Now let's hope canal park construction begins August!

a sample of the "skin" at 225 Virginia avenue sits in the parking lot of the building if you'd like a picture

One question I have is this: where will be the main entrances to Yards Park? Since a lot of folks live west of the park, will there be an entrance on the western side to enter from or will we all have to walk down to 3rd or 4th street to enter? Also, I'm still trying to picture where exactly the Dog Park down there will be. Between the WASA building and the Great Lawn doesn't make much sense.

You can walk down New Jersey and across on Tingey toward the Park once it opens, but 3rd will probably be the most enjoyable approach. The dog park will indeed be nestled at the far western edge of the park, next to WASA. [insert crack about co-mingling of similar scents here] It's not going to be huge, I don't think.

Eventually there will be a new Second Street that runs down to the park from Tingey, basically along the current fence line with WASA. That may make an approach from New Jersey a little more enticing.

The dog "park" is more of a dog "run" if you peer over the debris/construction material on the western side near the WASA you will see it. Its not the size of Canal Park section everyone uses now so I'm sure some people will complain but if VA Ave Park is saved there are plans to put a dog park there.
