Page Through from Before to After

A story never starts off well with me when they place locations in Southwest instead of Southeast (it's called a map, reporters and editors, learn how to use one), but beyond that, today's Examiner story "Ballpark Renaissance Striking Out in DC" would seem to have a bit of a disconnect between the "ZOMG IT'S A DISASTER" premise and the facts and statements that are then presented in the story. But rather than my leading everyone through them, I think I'll leave it to you folks to take a look at the piece and see what sticks out to you.

Can I please have back the 2.5 minutes of my life that I spent reading this stupid, internally inconsistent article?

It sounds like there are a lot of benefits:

Still, the ballpark is producing cash. The city finance office projects that baseball will have netted more than $135 million by the end of fiscal 2010.

"For all the anti-baseball people out there, we are balancing the budget on the profits of the stadium," said Councilman Jack Evans, D-Ward 2.

Didn't the Examiner also release the name of a minor (victim or subject) in a criminal dc investigation? So, revealing either a source or disclosing the name of a minor, as well as these inconsistencies...does anyone actually read this thing? It is garbage. I guess it is free...but, if boarding the metro, just pick up the Express.

The Examiner is a propagandistic rag and nothing more - heck it might even be worse that Fox News.

I think it was last week, Chris Core from WTOP did an editorial about the Examiner. I've searched and wish I could find a link. On that particular day, he mentioned (I'm definitely paraphrasing and I'm sure to have some inconsistencies, but you'll get the point) how the Washington Post's lead story was the oil spill and the NY Times' lead story was the S. Korea/N. Korea ship sinking, and that the LA Times cover was about the NYC bomber or flooding in Tennessee, something along those lines. The Examiner cover story on that same exact day...Kids drinking vodka through their eyeballs. If that isn't the Examiner summed up in a nutshell I don't know what is.

and the area around the Verizon Center took how many years before it flourished?? (and that was without the worst recession the country has ever seen other than the great depression)
I live here and I believe in the area.
Ask the writer of that piece to actually come tour the area..

George says: (6/1/10 4:57 PM)
Good call, Bruce. Capt Hill has a point also, The Examiner is a propaganda rag. That said, it is useful for a laugh.

BBC says: (6/2/10 6:22 PM)
I think that the Examiner definitely has this story wrong. However, every other paper also has its share of propaganda. The Express has also done much dumping on former Mayor Williams who is responsible for this area being what it is. I have yet to find any paper that is not propaganda. I suppose you can only read each source and then try to find the truth somewhere in between.

The Examiner exists for two reasons: to bring down the District and Mont Co.
