Page Through from Before to After

Here's a Monday morning item that I imagine will be of interest (judging from recent comment threads). On a tip from reader C, I can pass along that the Park at the Yards, scheduled to open this summer, will have a dog park on its western edge, near the WASA building. I don't have an iota of details beyond that (hope to within a week or so), and it doesn't appear on the renderings of the park (it would be at the far left of the images, next to the "Great Lawn"), but Forest City has confirmed that it will be there.
In other Yards news, following up on the item in Saturday's Post about the Foundry Lofts, Forest City has qualified that they are *hoping* to restart the project in April, but it's contingent on when they close on funding with HUD.

This is fantastic!! Thanks for the update... definitely keep us posted when you hear more about this.

I heard something similar in conversations with the BID this past week. Great news and I can't wait to see it come through.

MJM says: (3/29/10 12:50 PM)
Sweet - better location too!

Michael says: (3/29/10 1:40 PM)
I'm opposed to this. Why should we give future prime real estate to the dogs? Let them have Canal Park, which is, coincidentally, closer to large already-existing apartment/condo buildings. Now if I want to have a stroll on the river and enjoy the "jazz club," I'll also have to avoid poop and hear yelping and barking?

Andy in DC says: (3/29/10 1:51 PM)
Once the Yards park opens, will it connect with Teague Park and the Navy Yard to offer a riverfront trail?

JD says: (3/29/10 2:58 PM)
Andy--Eventually, yes, there will be a floating bridge crossing in front of the current WASA land to connect Teague and the Yards Park, and the entire stretch, from the SW Waterfront to Bladensburg, is part of the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail.

Michael--just to be clear on the locations, the Yards Park is over 5.5 acres in size. The dog park will be on the far western portion, near the WASA building at what would be Second Street if the street came through. The jazz club that may someday be part of the Boilermaker Shop would be on the northeast corner of 3rd and Tingey (a full block north of the park's boundaries, which start on the south side of the Foundry Lofts building). Look at the schematics on the page I link to above for more clarity on the layout.

This is great! This will help make a community.

And speaking of the Anacostia Riverwalk trail, will it ever be open in front of the Navy Yard?

JD says: (3/29/10 3:28 PM)
Once the Yards Park opens, the stretch of the Riverwalk in front of the Navy Yard should start moving towards being opened, but I've been told there's lots of steps and requirements to getting it done.

equipment on the central block of canal park conducting core samples or some other preliminary work preparing for infrastructure and build

work conducted on the northern block earlier in the day

MJM says: (3/30/10 8:04 AM)
This nice little surprise/addition will only increase traffic to that area of hood. Its "out of the way" and can only hope it is similiar in design to the Supont dog park (artifical turf, less mud, cleaner, etc).

Interesting - those 9 ft security fences getting in the way of things - this time its the riverwalk - see how they cut off access?

JT says: (4/7/10 10:40 AM)
I would love more details on this - what a great addition to the community!
