We will also be installing 3 monitoring wells and potentially 5 contingency wells. We will only pump from up to 15 wells at a time. All wells will be located in a mutually agreed layout. The wells will be installed by advancing up to a 10.25 I.D. hollow stem auger (HSA) drill rig from existing grade to a depth of 65 feet or refusal, whichever is encountered first. At depth, a 5 inch PVC flush joint threaded well assembly with up to 45 feet of slotted screen will be concentrically set into the borehole and select filter placed to a level two feet above the screen. A two foot bentonite seal will be placed and the balance of the hole will be filled with a cement/bentonite grout. Each well will include up to 15 feet of 12 inch diameter HDPE outer casing. Into each well will be installed a 1 HP turbine with discharge riser, power cord, and lift cable to the surface. At the well head, a throttle valve and a check valve will be installed on the effluent line. Effluent from each well will be directed through a common manifold to a baffled settling tank (BST) located at a mutually agreed discharge location. A totalizing flow meter is included. On ground weatherproof cable from your power source will be installed to energize the wells. CONSTRUCTION/MISCELLANEOUS SOIL BORING | WSP will complete three borings up to the deepest potential subgrade elevation (approx. 32 ft. bgs). WSP assumes that borings will not be installed inside the fleet maintenance facility due to access restrictions imposed by DC Water. The proposed boring locations form an ‘L’ shape around the eastern and southern sides of the fleet maintenance facility. WSP will collect and analyze three soil samples from each boring from depths corresponding to potential subgrade elevations (i.e. 10-12 ft. bgs, 20-22 ft. bgs and 30-32 ft. bgs). WSP will collect one groundwater sample from a temporary monitoring well installed in the boring closest to SB-9, to evaluate changes in groundwater contamination since the location was sampled in 2013. Soil samples will be submitted for the following analyses: TPH-DRO, TPH-GRO, VOCs, and Lead – Total petroleum hydrocarbons – diesel range organics (TPH-DRO) by EPA Method 8015B – Total petroleum hydrocarbons – gasoline range organics (TPH-GRO) by EPA Method 8015B – Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by EPA Method 8260B – Lead by EPA Method 6000/7000 series Groundwater sample will be analyzed for the following analyses: Arsenic, iron, lead and mercury; TPH-DRO, TPH-GRO, VOCs. Groundwater samples for metals analysis will be filtered. After completing the drilling activities at each location, the drilling tools will be removed from the subsurface. The boreholes will be backfilled with the removed soil material that is not sampled and capped with a minimum 1-foot thick layer of hydrated bentonite pellets or chips. If field data indicates the likelihood of VOC contamination, then we will abandon the entire borehole with bentonite. A ratio of approximately two (2) pounds of sodium-based bentonite powder to one (1) gallon of water will be used to abandon the boreholes. Boring locations in asphalt paved areas will be repaired to their original condition using asphalt patch or cement. All investigation derived waste (IDW) removed from the soil borings will be containerized in DOT-compliant 55-gallon drums and characterized for disposal at an approved off-site facility. A sample of the drill cuttings will be collected and analyzed to determine how the drill cuttings will be classified for disposal. Aqueous IDW generated during the field activities will include equipment decontamination rinsate. The aqueous waste will also be contained in DOT-compliant 55-gallon drums. CONSTRUCTION/MISCELLANEOUS SOIL BORING | Parcel G2:WSP will complete four borings up to the deepest potential subgrade elevation (approx. 32 ft. bgs). The proposed boring locations would be in the four quadrants of Parcel G2 to check for spatial variability in contaminant concentrations. WSP will collect and analyze three soil samples from each boring from depths corresponding to potential subgrade elevations (i.e. 10-12 ft. bgs, 20-22 ft. bgs and 30-32 ft. bgs). WSP will collect groundwater samples from temporary monitoring wells installed in two of the four borings. Parcel G3:WSP will complete two shallow soil borings (4 ft. bgs total) and collect two soil samples (0-2 ft. bgs and 2-4 ft. bgs) from each boring. Then advance boring to 15 feet for groundwater samples.WSP will then advance each boring to 15 feet bgs, install a temporary monitoring well, and collect a groundwater sample from each temporary monitoring well. Soil samples will be submitted for the following analyses: TPH-DRO, TPH-GRO, VOCs, and Lead Groundwater sample will be analyzed for the following analyses: Arsenic, iron, lead and mercury; TPH-DRO, TPH-GRO, VOCs. Groundwater samples for metals analysis will be filtered. After completing the drilling activities at each location, the drilling tools will be removed from the subsurface. The boreholes will be backfilled with the removed soil material that is not sampled and capped with a minimum 1-foot thick layer of hydrated bentonite pellets or chips. If field data indicates the likelihood of VOC contamination, then we will abandon the entire borehole with bentonite. A ratio of approximately two (2) pounds of sodium-based bentonite powder to one (1) gallon of water will be used to abandon the boreholes. Boring locations in asphalt paved areas will be repaired to their original condition using asphalt patch or cement. All investigation derived waste (IDW) removed from the soil borings will be containerized in DOT-compliant 55-gallon drums and characterized for disposal at an approved off-site facility. A sample of the drill cuttings will be collected and analyzed to determine how the drill cuttings will be classified for disposal. Aqueous IDW generated during the field activities will include equipment decontamination rinsate. The aqueous waste will also be contained in DOT-compliant 55-gallon drums.
