For the two of you who read this in the first 15 minutes, I've fixed it to say the entire *I* Street frontage, along with the corner of Half and I. Brain fart.

That will come in handy when I don’t want to walk the 3 blocks to the other CVS....
Hoping the other one is a Wawa!

No WaWa, sadly. Word from Related is that it’s a physician office - general practitioner. Could be affiliated with CVS or independent, not certain. They are also still trying to land a restaurant, but nothing yet. Suspect that’s difficult with the state of construction in and around that area right now.

Why, when we could have a dry cleaners instead?

@NavyYardNittany, oooh, maybe a OneMedical?

@JES - a friend hypothesized the same. Would be preferable to an independent GP practice. “We shall see”, as they (she) says.

It's definitely a neighborhood that would seem to be ripe for a Doc-in-a-box of some sort.
RMP says:

I can't really think of anything that would make me less excited than a chain store that already exists in the neighborhood and I barely visit as it is.
Speaking of chain stores, is there any chance McDonald's returns in one of the retail spaces over there?
JD says:
(4/4/19 9:21 AM)
There is a restaurant permit in the ground floor of Novel--I continue to hope against hope that McDonald's is returning there, though if it can't have a drive-through option I imagine it would lose about 80% of its previous take.
I do think a CVS there is not a bad idea--you've already got 70 and 100 I (and One Hill South) within one block, and will be adding Novel, Two Hill South, and all of the Square 696 residential. Then Parc Riverside and the office workers at 1015 Half not even two blocks away. That's a lot of people. The current CVS serves DOT, everyone getting on/off the Metro, Capitol Quarter, etc etc. Maybe not in terms of distance, but in terms of numbers I'm sure the neighborhood supports two.

How boring. I cannot understand how CVS thinks another location will do anything but eat into the profits of the existing location. It's not like folks have another option for CVS-type stores because there is no Walgreens, etc. I I also would have thought that facing Half street would be more desirable than I street, but I suppose the new hotel plus rental units on I street make that street just as desirable for a front entrance.
JD says:
(4/4/19 9:31 AM)
Hotel? Do you know something I don't, or are you talking about Randall across South Cap?
jdc says:
(4/4/19 9:38 AM)
JD - I was referring to the Novel, which seems to be all apartments, per your map. I had thought it included a hotel for some reason.
JD says:
(4/4/19 10:01 AM)
Early on there was talk that the second phase of Novel might be a hotel, but unless they are pulling a rabbit out of their hat, I don't think that's what's coming.

A birdie is telling me that the residents of One Hill South were told last night that it's going to be a Medstar physician's office (not urgent care). And it sounds like they were also told that a restaurant should be coming soon, but it's not confirmed.

In other news, you might see something of interest in Canal Park if you wander through there, and soon at Yards Park too.

A CVS and a Medstar physician's office...... it's like they're trying to win the award for bringing the least inspiring retail to the neighborhood. Not saying both won't make money and do fine, it just is so boring. I bet the restaurant will be an Applebee's without a liquor license to continue the trend.

@JD: Hmm. I’m guessing that you’re alluding to the article entitled “CAPITOL RIVERFRONT: THEN AND NOW” on page 28 of the 2019 Riverfront Review announcing the Capitol Riverfront BID/JDLand collaboration . . . oh, I think I’ll just let them tell it:

And here I thought they'd put a SoulCycle into 1HS, since Related (the developer) owns the chain. (Hence also why its internal gym is Equinox branded.)

Congrats JD! Just ate at Wiseguys, and boy that was delicious. Definitely should fix the jinx that location has had. As for the gelato, I did not try any but the presentation of each flavor was outstanding.

On my run today, it looked (and smelled) like nicoletta was open. Maybe that was already announced and known, but it was still a surprise to me.
Also, had the gelato at altani. The winning flavor so far is the cheesecake, but the Oreo and blood orange were also chefs kiss emoji

I know it's boring, but this neighborhood needs a doctor's office and/or urgent care clinic. There are already plenty of residents to support it and in 2 years it's going to be nuts in this neighborhood. Just in the NW quadrant of Navy Yard is going to have ~3,000 more people living there in the next 2 years.
100CapCaucus: are you talking about the north side of L St SE? As in up against the building with 106.7 and Bonchon? I hadn't noticed, I was distracted this morning with activity in the hole in the ground on the south side of L St next to the church parking lot.
Also, we hit Altani gelato on Sunday and it was fantastic. I had the oreo and my wife the saffron rose water, and we both loved our choices. I agree it's going to better concenptually, plus with the residential building opening up soon next to it will finally put some nice street life and foot traffic around it to make it more inviting.
Finally, on our way to Altani we saw the JDLand buildboards, very professionaly done by the BID, they did you good! Is there a special event or something those are intended for, or just general "for the neighborhood"?
