Page Through from Before to After
In the wake of what is clearly a very successful venture at the Lumber Shed, there are apparently now early-stage plans for "Due South Dockside," to be housed in two of the "bays" along the Anacostia Riverwalk near the pedestrian bridge in Yards Park. Due South owner Bo Blair tells me that there will be a "streamlined menu of Due South's best items," along with frozen drinks, beers, and wines and a kids menu (presumably not including beers and wines). An April 2017 opening date is being targeted. But I will note that there is apparently not yet a completed agreement with Forest City, as an inquiry to them about the plans was greeted with the standard statement about the company not commenting on any potential deals until a lease is signed. The early plans were presented to ANC 6D's ABC committee earlier this week, and my understanding is that the committee voted to support a liquor license for the project.

What happened to the pizza place that was supposed to be there?
JD says: (5/27/16 12:17 PM)
No word on it yet. But apparently one of the other bays will be soon by occupied by the folks operating the marina.
GoNavy says: (5/27/16 1:29 PM)
Interesting choice to have another smaller location about 100 feet away from the restaurant. Good on Due South for recognizing the opportunity. @JHUGrad Its hard to believe that there is zero pizza options so far in Navy Yard! I hope there is a bay left for some kinda pizza place. Especially one that is open later.
Chaifetz10 says: (5/27/16 1:33 PM)
Does Il Parco not count as a pizza option?
JES says: (5/27/16 1:37 PM)
Between il Parco, Justin's, and Scarlet Oak, we have plenty of neopolitain pizza joints. But a nice New York style would be a good addition.
JD says: (5/27/16 1:38 PM)
@JDC, I think there are five bays. My understanding has been that Morini has dibs on two of them for Nicoletta (should that time ever come), and Dockside would be in two. If the marina dock office is in one, I guess then that's all of them.
MJM says: (5/27/16 1:51 PM)
JD's likeability scale just went up 10 points with Domino's
JD says: (5/27/16 1:58 PM)
Domino's and I go back a long ways. (Pic from an especially memorable weekend at college in 1987.)
I am not much of a fan of Neapolitan. But if you ever want to have a discussion about great Detroit pizza locations, I can speak at length.
jdc says: (5/27/16 7:45 PM)
@JD - hailing from suburban Detroit, I long for a) Hungry Howies, b) Buddy's Pizza in Farmington, and c) Pizza Papalis. And not necessarily in that order.
dude says: (5/27/16 9:12 PM)
About time these things get put to use. Does Il Parco count as pizza if it's not edible?
JD says: (5/27/16 9:31 PM)
As for Detroit pizza, I need to add Cloverleaf in Eastpointe, in addition to the original Buddy's on 6 Mile And the one in Warren on Van Dyke). I don't really dig Loui's in Hazel Park, but also need to give props to the Green Lantern in Madison Heights, even though it's not square Detroit pizza.
JES says: (5/28/16 2:31 PM)
Oh god, green lantern. I lived a friend in Clawson for a year, we used to walk there every week and demolish a bacon-covered square pizza. So good. Jets is another one I miss.
NavyYardGuy says: (5/28/16 9:50 PM)
HUNGRY HOWIES. Hands Down---it changed my life, seriously.
202_cyclist says: (5/31/16 12:10 PM)
Okay, let's see how this works. I created a Yahoo group for the Navy Yard/Capitol Riverfront. There is an existing group for Capitol Hill. link
JES says: (5/31/16 5:13 PM)
Yahoo and not Google? 2008 called, they want their web host back ;-)
jdc says: (6/1/16 8:13 AM)
I just saw the liquor license application for the hotel on M and half Street. It is Seeking a Tavern liquor license for a venue with 135 seats plus a seasonal 35 seed rooftop area.f
jdc says: (6/1/16 8:41 AM)
I'll also add that I went for a walk yesterday, and the pace of exterior work progress at Insignia amazes me each time I see it. There also seems to have been monumental progress on the two buildings going up on 1st St.
202_cyclist says: (6/1/16 10:02 AM)
@JES--- I was going to use Hotmail but that option didn't exist... Most of the local neighborhood groups are via Yahoo Groups. There is an existing Navy Yard/Capitol Riverfront gmail group but it is largely dormant (about 2 - 3 emails per month).
GoNavy says: (6/1/16 10:41 AM)
@202_cyclist What about a private subreddit? Much better options for posting videos, photos, articles etc and you can moderate it easily.
JD says: (6/1/16 10:43 AM)
Please note for the record that I am allowing discussion of how to create a location that would basically serve to replace me. :-)
202_cyclist says: (6/1/16 1:09 PM)
@JD: No, not at all. The neighborhood listserve is a good resource to find moving boxes, recommendations for car repairs, looking for a lost pet, selling Nationals tickets, etc... You are irreplaceable.
JD says: (6/1/16 1:15 PM)
:-)
I think there's also a NextDoor group--I'm not allowed in, because I don't live within the stated boundaries.
And Capitol Quarter has its own list. As does Parents in the Capitol Riverfront.
walt says: (6/3/16 3:01 PM)
NextDoor is difficult to use. Hard to post recurring meetings there and you can't simply email a message like with a listserv. JD Land is the best option, though to be honest, I would like a forum section.
JD says: (6/3/16 3:04 PM)
I've considered forums, but not sure I want the additional headache. It's hard enough just to get me to blog these days. :)
