 Sliding from Before to After

They're still putting their makeup on, but after a soft opening over the next few days, Due South is planning to open its doors for real on Monday, Aug. 17 in the northwest corner of the Lumber Shed at 3rd and Water in the Yards.
The southern-themed restaurant is the latest from the Bo Blair empire, he of the Fairgrounds, and Jetties, and the Bayou, which is where Due South executive chef Rusty Holman made his home before moving to the Yards.
It will be just dinner service starting at 5 pm during the first few weeks, with weekday lunch and weekend brunch offerings coming probably in early September.
The official web site isn't up and running right this instant, but once it is, you should be able to see the menu and more details.
When I visited this morning, there was a lot of work still going on, but they were nice enough to let me take a few photos while I dodged the crowd of workers bringing in the cartons of eggs and stocking the bar.

*We ate at Due South on Friday night. The food and service were both great and the restaurant is very attractive inside.

*It appears that after a long hiatus, work on the Brig has resumed. It should be finished in time for the Nationals post-season appearance this October....

*Also, you said there is nothing planned for the lot behind the McDonalds on South Capitol Street but it looks like the land was recently graded there and this looks distinct from the CSX construction.

*Finally, what is the consensus on the CSX construction? For us it hasn't been even a slight disruption.

@JNB, as I said above, I am very much out-of-pocket (about 5 time zones out of pocket). I had heard rumors of this, but don't know anything else right now. And there wouldn't be any groundbreaking-type details at this early of a stage anyway, if they are still in the zoning phase.

In closing news - it looks like Sizzling Express is closed. The sign on the door says "SIZZLING EXPRESS CLOSED THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATRONAGE".

I had lived in the neighborhood for two whole before realizing that Sizzling Express was actually open! I hate to see a business not make it. But despite being in a pretty bland building, that intersection might prove to be a good opportunity for another business, either a restaurant or perhaps some sort of retail.

Also, that Bardo beer garden "planned" for the south side of Nats Park has applied for a liquor license. link

I wonder if the Sizzling Express was limited in the hours that it could be open due to the building that it was in. It made absolutely no sense to me that the Sizzling Express was closed on weekends and evenings.

Sizzling Express was open during the hours that it was likely to get business because of its food selection. It was a breakfast and lunch bar. For anyone that ever went in, I don't think it's a surprise that it closed once the Harris Teeter opened and offered more selection and better food in the same type of hot bars. It also had a health code violation a few months ago. I was betting on it closing by October. It beat me by 1.5 months.

No idea, but it'd be cool to get another project underway. The Nats announcers remarked on Friday night (after having returned from a ten-game road trip) how much the current projects have progressed and how it seemed like there were more cranes in the neighborhood than when they left. Would be good to keep the momentum going!

2nd crane added to the 909 Half St site. 2nd crane added to the F1rst site. 1st crane built at the Homewood Suites site. Hampton Inn banner hung on West Side of building. Construction nearly reaching ground level at 801 NJ Site. Sidewalks being built on I between NJ and 2nd! Due South is really good. Lots happening.

Is there anything planned for the lot next to Parc Riverside? There is a fence there with blue siding around the perimeter of the lot.

Toll owns it, and is planning another apartment building, but there's been no announcement as yet to any sort of timeline.
