It's time to add another dining option to the neighborhood lineup, as Scarlet Oak has put out the word that it is opening at 4 pm tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 1, on the northwest corner of New Jersey Avenue and K Streets, SE, in the ground floor of the 909 New Jersey apartment building.
The fare is "casual American," and the menu is available for your perusing, showing a range of small plates and "nibbles," pizza, and entrees, plus some intriguing cocktails.
If and when you venture in, take to the comments to let us know your impressions.

My husband and I had dinner there Sunday night. The food was actually really good! I had kale chips for an appetizer and my husband had a meatball appetizer. It was small portions, but it was priced at $5, so it seemed appropriate. I had tuna tartare for my dinner and my husband had the spicy sausage pizza. The pizza was delicious! We asked for it well done and the bottom of the crust was crispy, like if you did it over a camp fire. For dessert, we had the creme brûlée and the sherbet. Both were pretty good. I would consider the creme dessert a cold one, while sometimes they are prepared warm. The sherbet was advertised by our waiter as having a chocolate scoop, which it did not. He was frustrated as that is why he got it. After pointing this out to the waiter, he made it right by bringing us a whole bowl of chocolate sherbet which was delicious! Also, I had a mixed cocktail that they advertised. It was vodka, fresh strawberry, and some simple syrup. It was very good, but I felt a little pricey at $10 based on the size of it. The manager came by and asked how our experience was. I did let him know that the appetizers came out too close to our meals and we had to wait too long to get the appetizer. He listened and apologized and assured us within the next two weeks, they would have all the timing issues worked out. He introduced himself as Peter and was extremely approachable. We will definitely be back there!
