Page Through from Before to After
Not much to pass along other than to quote the announcement just sent out: "For our friends in DC, the last day of operations for our Yards location will be tomorrow, Friday, July 17. As our neighborhood has grown and developed, we have always tried to meet the desires of our community, and have found that our guests would benefit from more programming and offerings from our adjoining brewery & restaurant, Bluejacket and The Arsenal. They'll be transforming the space into a bottle shop & tasting room in the coming weeks."

I'm not entirely surprised. I always found that this Buzz' hours were unpredictable (I'd go during their posted hours, and they'd be closed) and their offerings a little limited. I don't think their hours and such really served the neighborhood. That said, I do think we could really use a gourmet coffee and pastry shop down there.
conngs0 says: (7/17/15 10:17 AM)
Totally agree that there's a niche to be filled for a good bakery / pastry shop. But of course, it has to be good. I was always pretty disappointed in what Buzz put out. Spring Mill Bread Company over on Barracks Row is so much better. So I'm excited to see that the Bluejacket folks are sticking with the beer.
JES says: (7/17/15 12:29 PM)
I liked the idea of Buzz, but the execution was pretty crappy. Stale cupcakes, they didn't sell loaves of bread (what bakery doesn't sell bread???), and the coffee was alright, but was still crappier than what Lot 38 sells. I welcome the tasting room/bottle shop.
conngs0 says: (7/17/15 1:43 PM)
JES, Great point to bring up Lot 38. The Illy coffee there is pretty solid. I'm by no means a connoisseur of coffee, but I'd probably go there even if there was a "gourmet" coffee house in the neighborhood.
MJM says: (7/17/15 2:37 PM)
Lot 38 is underappreciated. Maybe a bit slower than SBUX but its more friendlier and cleaner than SBUX. Only went to Buzz once even though we "visited" for brunch at Bluejacket. Only concern is where is Bluejacket going to get their lattes for brunch?
JES says: (7/17/15 3:59 PM)
I'd imagine Bluejacket will keep the espresso machine. A lot of restaurants offer espresso as part of their normal menu now, so I don't think they'll ditch it. At least, I hope not.
Westnorth says: (7/18/15 12:14 AM)
I usually mourn bakeries, but as with others, I found the selection of pastries/cupcakes (and the hours!) not even up to the standard set by Buzz's other locations. I almost always opt for Lot 38 instead.
202_cyclist says: (7/18/15 8:57 AM)
@MJM: exactly right. The people are really friendly at Lot 38 and the bahn mi is one of the best deals in the neighborhood.
JD says: (7/21/15 9:25 AM)
The Yards tweeted out yesterday that they'll soon have news of a new "coffee shop" coming to the neighborhood.
BillP says: (7/28/15 10:45 AM)
This Buzz was a huge disappointment compared to their other locations. I just don't think NRG gave it much attention. They certainly weren't baking anything there and Sunday morning muffins were obviously from the previous day. Beer tasting / retail sounds like a much better use of the space. Lot 38 is FANTASTIC! Coffee crazies know you cannot do any better than Illy espresso. Talked to the owner a while back, he actually had to go to Italy and take a course from Illy in order to use and sell it in his store! While the pastries leave much to be desired, they are no worse than sixbucks but I do wish they'd contract with a great local baker for their goodies like Peregrine does... then it would be perfect!
