Sliding from Before to After
Word is filtering my way that 100 Montaditos should at last be bringing its menu of Spanish sandwiches and other items to the Boilermaker Shops at the Yards, perhaps even as early as this Thursday, Dec. 4 Mr. JDLand has been keeping close tabs on the progress of this latest offering, and provided this photo of the sandwich board (literally!) out front of the space last week. The release also says that Banfield Pet Hospital is expected to open in the first quarter of 2015 in Twelve12's last retail space on Tingey Street, and that the Navy Yard Oyster Company and Due South restaurants are both expected to open in the Lumber Shed in the spring. Also coming in the spring should be the landscaping of the no-longer-Spooky Parcel A lot, with both a temporary park and parking lot. (No mention of the Trapeze School move, though.) On the residential side of things, "late 2015" is given both as the completion date for the 327-unit Arris building next to the Foundry Lofts and also the planned start of the 135-unit PN Hoffman condo building at the southeast corner of 4th and Tingey. If you see action at Montaditos, let me know. And let @TheSlot know, too.

I'm looking forward to yet another new place to eat! I love that we're now on a schedule of about 1 new place per month.

I don't speak Spanish - what is a Montadito?
202_cyclist says: (12/3/14 11:09 AM)
One restaurant that doesn't seem to be opening any time soon is Scarlet Oak. The space they would move into is still completely vacant.
JES says: (12/3/14 11:31 AM)
"Late 2015" for the completion of Arris? They're gonna have that building done in 12 months? Godspeed, people. Got a looooooong way to go.
JD says: (12/3/14 11:40 AM)
I allowed it because it's *conceivable* that they *might* have *one or two* units open on a lower floor by then.
202_cyclist says: (12/3/14 11:53 AM)
Have any residents moved into Parc Riverside yet?
JES says: (12/3/14 12:40 PM)
As someone who's had the pleasure of looking directly over the Parc Riverside construction from my bedroom window, I can say with certainty that they do not have anyone moved in yet. They're mostly doing interior work on the units now, but they're also still working in the garage, still working on the courtyard, and still working in the lobby/on the sidewalk fronting 1st St.
JES says: (12/3/14 12:41 PM)
JD, I'm guessing no word on Arris retail tenants, but do you know if Forest City is actively marketing those spaces yet? Any letters of intent signed?
JD says: (12/3/14 12:44 PM)
I would tell you if there were any news, I promise. Forest City does not announce letters of intent, only signed leases.
ZoolanderANDtheBoYz says: (12/3/14 7:45 PM)
My family and I were driving through Old town Alexandria and we stopped at the new Harris Teeter which is on the same street and block of Trader Joe. And this made me think that you can have Harris teeter and Trader Joe on the same street. Hello Arris, you got 20,000 square feet retail space - get Trader Joe to lease IT. GET IT DONE!! YOU CAN DO IT!! LOL
JD says: (12/3/14 11:08 PM)
I'm guessing though that those two sites in Alexandria are not owned by the same developer. I can't imagine Forest City would install competing grocery stores a few feet away from each other.
Looks like Montaditos won't open Thursday - which is why I hedged it. :-)
JD says: (12/4/14 12:09 PM)
Those of you wanting an outdoor sports retailer in the Hood can cross REI off the list:
link
JES says: (12/4/14 12:13 PM)
I think part of the lease deal that Teeter signed with the Yards stipulated that they're the only grocery tenant allowed in the development. I don't think they could legally put a TJs into Arris even if they wanted to.
conngs0 says: (12/4/14 3:59 PM)
Thanks for posting the link about the REI, JD. I was definitely one of those who thought that specific chain would be idea for the Navy Yard area in light of the proximity to the freeway for shoppers to access along with the river and bike routes for those who want to take their purchases out for a spin immediately. I still don't understand why a store like REI would try to set up shop in NoMa if there was an opportunity for all of those elements, but oh well...
