Page Through from Before to After
( Sorry for short and sweet. My Own Private JDLand, etc. etc.) * The BID reports that Forest City has announced (I never hear about Forest City things directly anymore) that all-organic, vegan, and gluten-free juice bar and raw-food kitchen The Juice Laundry will be coming to Arris in the spring, its first location outside of its home base in Charlottesville. If you want a sneak preview, there's a pop-up version of the Juice Laundry this weekend at the corner of 4th and Tingey, from 10 am to 6 pm today (Friday, Dec. 2) and tomorrow (Saturday, Dec. 3). * Barred in DC says that "the long saga for the Bardo River Brewery appears to be over," with Bardo and ABRA having entering into a consent order this week that will finally pave the way for a liquor license. Barred says that the order means that Bardo can be open until midnight, but is "required to create a security plan and maintain a comprehensive security camera system and cannot seek permission to have entertainment, such as live music or DJs." However, an "anonymous" comment on Barred's post disputes these items, and says that Bardo "is still pursuing legal measures due to the delays ABRA's illegal actions caused." Gosh, I wonder who wrote that!

I wonder which retail space Juice Laundry will be getting at Arris. The one closest to Jubilee is going to be my bet.
RMP says: (12/3/16 1:56 PM)
I guessed wrong. I talked to the Juice Laundry folks today and it sounds like their space is going to be in the SE corner of what's now Steadfast Supply, with their door on 4th St next to the Arris entrance.

If this juice place was akin to the Juice Joint in terms of food offerings, then I would be thrilled.

This newly approved building permit will warm a few hearts:
INTERIOR BUILD OUT OF A QUICK SERVICE RESTAURANT SHAKE SHACK ON THE GROUND LEVEL OF AN EXISTING BUILDING
202_cyclist says: (12/5/16 12:46 PM)
@JD: I think you meant this will warm our arteries.... Walking back from the SW Christmas boat parade on Saturday evening, I was thinking it would have been very nice if Shake Shack was open.
Ampersand says: (12/5/16 1:58 PM)
@202_cyclist Aha! I bet the SW Christmas boat parade is the source of the fireworks I glimpsed on Saturday night! It seemed like quite a show - I was walking to and from the Harris Teeter while it was going on and was impressed at the length (and how well the sound carried).
Ampersand says: (12/5/16 1:59 PM)
@JD - Any idea of the timeline on that permit? I'm hopeful it won't take too long to build out, but I really don't have a good feel for that kind of thing.
Rick says: (12/5/16 2:36 PM)
I would love a nice Japanese Restaurant in Arris.
jdc says: (12/7/16 8:38 AM)
It seems the southern part of the bullpen parcel is now clear of shipping crates.
JD says: (12/7/16 10:15 AM)
Don't miss my screenshotted-for-posterity image of the tirade that the owner of Bardo has gone on via Twitter in the past 24 hours:
conngs0 says: (12/7/16 11:32 AM)
Wow... dude seems fired up! He's even rolling out the legalese by referencing those "illegal ex-parte communications" from the group tasked with advising the DC government on matters pertaining to the neighborhood.
202_cyclist says: (12/7/16 12:36 PM)
Well, at least he's just the owner of a beer garden and not, you know, the next leader of the most powerful country who got his feelings hurt because of a funny SNL parody...
RMP says: (12/7/16 2:44 PM)
I never went to the old Bardo so maybe I don't know what I'm missing. But I read the Twitter temper tantrum and wow, it does not seem like a place where I want to go spend my money. That said, I hope they prove me wrong and actually start acting like good neighbors.
walt says: (12/7/16 3:52 PM)
I'm not against a Shake Shack, but that block of that street seems to be amassing a lot of fast food places. Can't they spread the fast food around a bit more? It's too much for one place. Oh and NIMBY!
JD says: (12/7/16 4:18 PM)
Clearly you've never stood in line for 30 minutes at the ballpark Shake Shack if you're calling it fast food. :) :)
jdc says: (12/7/16 4:51 PM)
@walt - I assume you're referring to Subway and...Chix? That does not seem to really concentrate 'fast food' IMHO. Plus, we have another subway and 5 guys on canal park, so there is that concentration over there.
JD says: (12/7/16 5:29 PM)
And, because there's not much else to discuss--this trade just announced of getting CF Adam Eaton from the White Sox for Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, and Dane Dunning. I see Twitter exploding in anger over it, but, I dunno--I was kind of unimpressed by Giolito this year, given the hype. (Which of course means he'll be lights out for the Sox.)
It moves Trea to SS--I'm guessing Danny E. might be headed to other pastures as well.
202_cyclist says: (12/7/16 5:35 PM)
I agree-- Giolito didn't impress during his rookie year here. I am going to miss Wilson Ramos. Also, what are the Nats going to do for a closer that that we not only lost Denard Span to the Giants but also Mark Melancon?
JD says: (12/7/16 5:42 PM)
Barry Svrluga on Twitter right now saying that "some Nats officials had soured on Giolito." And quoting some other Tweet saying "The Nationals were down on Lucas Giolito, and the entire industry knew it."
202_cyclist says: (12/7/16 5:44 PM)
Dang! I will miss Danny Espinosa if that is true.
