 Sliding from Before to After

UPDATED: It looks like an Instagram post wasn't even quite solid enough of a source, as there's now been a press release that Whaley's is officially opening on Monday, May 16. The web site has been updated with that date, and reservations can now be made.
UPDATED II: And here's a peek inside, from Washingtonian.
Original post:
It was a little circuitous, but this evening on Instagram Whaley's announced that it will be opening its doors on Saturday, May 14th.
(The folks on the Yards Instagram account "got too excited" and announced an earlier date, which the Whaley's Instagram account corrected in the comments, as seen in the screen shot.)
The official web site still says "Opening Soon," but the dinner and drinks menus are now posted and the menus are "coming soon" as well (UPDATED because I'm an idjit). The hours (which I'm guessing are not the permanent ones) are listed as 5 to 10 pm Sunday through Wednesday and 5 to midnight Thursday through Saturday, with the kitchen closing at 11 pm.
The seafood and raw bar is located in the Lumber Shed at the Yards Park, in the ground-floor space between Osteria Morini and Agua 301, facing the park's overlook and the Anacostia River.
The web site's About page gives the lowdown on the Whaley's theme, and that "there was indeed a man named Whaley," who was the commodore of the Maryland Navy early in the Revolutionary War, and then became the first casualty in the Maryland Navy in the Revolutionary War.

The menu PDFs still just say "coming soon."

Mumble mumble swore I clicked mumble mumble.

I was in a hurry.

I have a feeling this place is going to do very well - especially during those Friday night concerts when people need to go somewhere to get a drink that isn't Corona or Modelo!

Packinblackandred says: (5/10/16 12:40 PM)
Agreed. I know I'm psyched for it. Now all I need to complete my utopian neighborhood is a concert venue, a pho place, and for the movie theater to open!

conngs0 says: (5/10/16 1:58 PM)
Haha... well aside from the Yards Park concerts there's also Billy Joe and the Boss coming to Nats Park this summer! Something tells me that's the closest you'll get to a concert venue (Arena Stage in SW?). As for Pho, there's that place up near 12th and Penn SE that I suppose will have to hold you over until something new opens up in the neighborhood's boundaries.

Jaybird says: (5/11/16 9:04 AM)
There are a couple of historical markers in Onancock that mention Whaley.

Daedam says: (5/11/16 4:05 PM)
I've said before and maintain that I think the small building behind the DOT along Tingey St (near the Bikeshare station) would make a fantastic concert venue along the lines of 9:30 Club and the Fillmore. Maybe if it's suggested enough, someone, somewhere will make it happen. ;-)

JD says: (5/11/16 5:18 PM)
I'm out of pocket, can't update the post, but opening is now pushed to Monday May 16.

JD says: (5/11/16 5:21 PM)
So I should have listened to myself about opening dates!

JD says: (5/12/16 10:43 AM)
And unless there's completely earthshattering news to pass along, no more posts from me until early next week.

JES says: (5/12/16 2:27 PM)
From the Washingtonian article: "Look to sip outdoors on two patios as the season progresses—a 20-seat al fresco area directly in front of the restaurant, and a larger space—roughly twice the size—just steps from the Anacostia River."

I'm still trying to figure out where the hell that second patio space is going to be. On the boardwalk? On that concrete patio where the bridge connects?

I'll take the over on 909 Half opening in December.

(Also, I'm now back from a few days in Vegas. Sounds like the Brig didn't open--shocker!)

Westnorth says: (5/24/16 12:58 AM)
@JES: Talked with a server today, and it'll be just inland of the bridge's eastern landing, with its own bar and oyster-shucker so that servers won't have to dash across the grass.

conngs0 says: (5/24/16 10:42 AM)
Sounds like a good spot. Any early reviews?

JES says: (5/24/16 4:16 PM)
@Westnorth, that'll be neat. Wonder when it'll open.
