UPDATE: Ow, I'm taking a beating in the dartboard section. But I'm very happy to have been wrong on Best Supporting Actor (I WANTED George, but couldn't dare to dream!)! Didn't realize that King Kong would be such a technical juggernaut.
UPDATE II: I thought Brokeback might be facing an upset (although not enough to pick against it), that maybe it peaked too soon, but wow. Haven't seen Crash, guess we'll have to check it out, though it doesn't sound up my alley.
UPDATE III: Quick show review: Boy, was Jon nervous during the opening. But as I hoped, his quick wit really worked during the rest of the show. Right up there with Billy Crystal in the one-liners. And the fake ads were great, a nice way for him to sneak in his strong suit. I have to think he'll get a generally good reaction, and should be asked back again someday.
And this isn't something I notice that often, but the show was HORRIBLY produced. Terrible editing, staying too long on reaction shots, useless montage sequences, etc.
I'm so happy Philip Seymour Hoffman won. And Reese, even though she veered perilously close to "You Like Me! You Really Like Me!" territory, was very genuine, and I don't doubt that the chance to play a strong Southern woman meant a lot to her. She is just so darn cute. (If you've never seen Election, go out and rent it.) And George. {sigh} GEORGE. He is just the coolest guy in the world. And if his win nudged Bill O'Reilly one iota closer to a stroke, then we all win.
And there's a lease agreement for the stadium, so this night already gave me the award I was looking for.
