If there's big news, I'll pop up, but otherwise I'm going to enjoy the time off. Feel free to yack in the comments about whatever neighborhood-related news or issues strike your fancy.

Rubens are cleaning their lot at half and L street. I wonder if they plan to start construction any time soon.
Does any one know why Akridge removed the fences on 1st and L street? It would have been nice if they clean the entire lot and put some grasses. Not that it is going to happen but it makes a perfect dog park. We don't have to walk all the way to Garfield park to socialize our four legged kids.

Does anyone have news about who actually collected their signatures for the ANC positions? I believe the deadline was the other day, so we should know now who the candidates actually are.

@BinDC -- The candidates list is here:
linkCandidates on the ballot in 6D02: Ed Kaminski from Velocity and Damon Patton from 909.
Candidates on the ballot in 6D07: Just me.
Of course, anyone could mount a write-in campaign. But right now it looks like there's a good chance we'll have two commissioners from this side of South Capitol.

@David Garber,
I will vote for you if you do something about the taxi garage on half and L street. They park in the middle of the street and block me from driving through and they make our neighborhood look like a shit place.

What's the difference between Ed and Damon's stances on issues? Instinctually I'd lean to the buyer (Ed) who cares about property values and not a renter...

It looks like the lady who kept horses under I-295 on New Jersey Avenue has moved out. Anyone know what happened to her? The horses and the trailer are gone, although the paddock is still standing.

DC government issued a request for proposals for 300,000 square feet of development rights around Nationals park and Buzzard Point. Note that their map is not to scale!
This could allow for the beginning of the rezoning process necessary for DC United to build a new stadium around the areas labeled 0661, 0665, 0609, and 0611 on the map.

Awesome news about that RFP for Buzzard Point. What I've heard is that is exactly the land that the new DCU ownership is looking at investing in for a stadium complex. Interesting that the RFP comes out one month after DCU's ownership deal is announced.
I had to get a chuckle at folks saying that the Redskins stadium should go there. There isn't close to enough space for an NFL size stadium there. If the Redskins ever do come back, they will build something state of the art on the RFK site after *substantial* evironmental assessments and cleanup. That site actually can accomodate the parking and other infrastructure you would need for a 90k seat stadium and has historic significance to the team as well.

The RFP isn't connected to the new DC United stadium, it's most likely to allow the new Square 701 mixed-use project to get the necessary density for the hotel:

sgDC, spoke with her in June before she was kicked out of her spot. She said, the city ended her lease early roughly a year early because the land or surrounding area was needed for the new apartment and the H St to NJ connection. She now only does booked tours and has to drive into the city with her horses.

Dodd Walker made a comment that he was upset that dogs owners were not cleaning up - so I imagine the solution was easy - take down the fence. I could be wrong on that reasoning but it makes sense.
