Though I'm about to disappear down the college football rabbit hole for the the rest of the day, I couldn't resist getting a few quick photos of the new framing that's going up on the last block of
Capitol Quarter's first phase, on the
northwest corner of Fourth and I.

I also wandered over to First Street to get "final" photos of
Velocity building now that the building has opened, including a shot of the
sign now up at Justin's Cafe (not that you can really see the sign, thanks to poor sun positioning. Might have to sneak back over there early in the morning).

I just found this blog today, and I'm glad I did. I live in the Axiom complex, and am excited for the neighborhood to start developing a bit more. Where is this new Justin's cafe?

Welcome! Justin's is going to be in the ground floor of the Velocity Condos building, on First between K and L (two blocks south of your building). The menu will feature "fresh salads, sandwiches and wood oven baked pizzas," and there will be a full bar. I doubt it will open before New Year's.

OMG, JD!!! Wood fired pizzas??? I am in so much trouble. The sad part is that with Results Gym only two blocks from my soon to be completed Cap. Quater townhouse, I will make all kinds of excuses to skip the gym and head to Justin's for pizza. I suppose if I jog to Justin's then that counts as exercise, right?
Welcome to the hood DC603. Mark my word... you will become obsessed with this blog. JD has worked this sucker out. It is so great that she has spent a bizzillion hours over the last number of years chronicling every conceivable development of our fair neighborhood. The importance of her work is invaluable as a historic time capsule of the near southeast's redevelopment into the gem neighborhood of the city.

Metrocentric has posted renderings of what 225 Virginia will look like. They say that it will be the same design as was planned when the building was to be used for the MPD.

I haven't been able to confirm yet that the drawings they're showing (which they didn't first seem to notice were from 2007, until a commenter pointed it out) are indeed the ones that the city will be moving forward on, since it's possible that a building that won't now be housing a department obsessed with security might get some tweaks to the design.

Can you believe that the sign for "Justin's Cafe" is missing the apostrophe? Ha ha ha ha ha!!! I hate our illiterate society.

Pizza Pizza
Maybe Hizz-honor, Mayor 4 Life (USS) Marion Barry can throw out the first pizza? (As this is near his old stomping grounds)
Like the full bar concept - stopped by Mariott once after Red Sox game w/Nats and Red Sox nation was happily buying suds there and supporting the old JD neighborhood.
Would imagine quite a few folks might wander over to this place after... NATS WIN! NATS WIN!
