New Jersey at Tingey, Looking North-Northwest (see more)

It's been a rumor rampant in the JDLand comment threads for a number of weeks, but this morning signage went up confirming that Wiseguy Pizza will be coming to the former Park Tavern/Il Parco space in Canal Park.
What was not rumored is that there will also be a gelato and coffee offering as well, which should go well with the space's location immediately next to the park's fountains in summer and ice rink in winter.
A JDLand reader on Twitter reports that the workers hanging the signs said that Wiseguy would open in about three months, but We Shall See.
This will be Wiseguy's third DC location.
In other neighborhood pizza news:
* All-Purpose tweeted last week that its Dock 79 location is opening "this February," and there is now a "Coming Soon" badge for it on its web site.
* Oath Pizza also now has a Coming Soon page for its location on M Street next to Bethesda Bagels in the ground floor of Insignia on M. interested parties can sign up for an invite to their (undated) grand opening.
* The build-out at Declaration in the ground floor of F1rst seems to be proceeding apace, as this photo from last weekend shows.

Anyone have info on wiseguy’s timeline or on Eagle Academy move?

Also, any sense of retail/dining development connected to United’s new home at Buzzard Point? ... can’t bring myself to call it Audi Field yet.

Welcome to the site! JD does an excellent job for JD Land/Capitol Riverfront/Navy Yard but for updates on the other side of So. Capitol Street, I suggest reading Southwest the Little Quadrant That Could.

But while we are venturing to the other side of So. Capitol Street, does anyone know what will happen to the heliport next to the Frederick Douglass bridge? I can’t imagine it is going to stay there much longer as the area around Buzzard Point (and 71 Potomac) comtinue to develop.

@dude - Wiseguys should certainly be a step up. The Chinatown location is delicious - I've been many times. A friend in VA says that the Rosslyn spot is not nearly as good, but I'm holding out hope this one will be solid. I think there's another location in Foggy Bottom but I can't speak to that one...

As for all the high rises, I've recently reached the conclusion that the high rise section south of the freeway should be called something different from the townhouse section. Because the two sections are so different demographically and visually.

Of course I think townhouse section should be "Navy Yard" because it is closer to the Navy Yard and because it is more in keeping with the original character of the Navy Yard Neighborhood.

The high rise section should be "Capitol Riverfront" or even "Nats Town".

@JD, any thoughts on doubling your neighborhoods served while maintaining the same geo area?

Besides, I think the name Mr. JD Land gave, SoCHill (South of Capitol Hill) would be the best choice.

By the way, catching up on the movie theater stuff--there's an easement that I guess needs federal approval, and it's getting caught up in bureaucratic muck. But at least that part of the process looks ready to happen soon (getting the needed land from DC Water). The original contract with Icon Showplace has expired, though--so the next thing to watch would be whether there's a quick new contract once the land stuff is finally sorted.

So, it's not dead, but the snail's pace of the many moving parts is making it all continue to drag out.

Speaking of SW, coming over the Yellow Line bridge this morning I was able to see the top of Audi field peaking over the trees. I didn't realize how tall it would be (lack of foliage helps, though).

I've been out of college for 22 years now, and live in one of those high rises. Not many college folks or even recent college grads in One Hill South, Parc Riverside, Velocity, etc. So your naming convention seems a bit off.

Wiseguys is a great pull for that location. I'm curious as to whether they'll keep the bar/liquor license, as their other locations are all just counter service with varying amounts of seating.

It's also a much more daytime-focused restaurant than what's been in there before, so they may be thinking that the primary customers are between park-goers and USDOT/biz folks running out for a quick lunch, and people grabbing a quick pre-game bite, rather than a dinner/bar crowd.
