Page Through from Before to After

* Canal Park's new web site launched today, and it indicates that they're still aiming for a November opening for the park, the ice rink, and the restaurant.
* The I Street McDonalds is going to be getting a makeover, judging by a recently approved building permit.
* Current 6D07 commissioner David Garber has picked up petitions to run for reelection. So far he and Ed Kaminski are the only potential candidates for the two single member districts that cover Near Southeast.
And, in this weekend's events:
* Tonight's Front Flick at Tingey Plaza is The DaVinci Code.
* The Nats are about to start their 12:35 pm Matinee as I type this on Thursday, then they'll play host to the Braves Friday-Sunday. This time around there's a Saturday 1:05/7:05 doubleheader, which includes the second NatsLive concert, with the Wallflowers. (Tickets for each game sold separately, and you need a ticket to the 7:05 pm game in order to see the Wallflowers.) It's a pretty big-time series against Atlanta, so expect big crowds.
* The Fairgrounds has its South on South Capitol Southern Rock festival on Friday and the Capitol GrooveFest on Saturday
* The Yards Park has Jah Works playing reggae for its Friday Evening Concert, then the Taste of Belgium beer/food/music event on Saturday.

Gee...I was wondering what happened to JD.
I check this blog about 4 or 5 times a day.
I did check the new website of the Canal Park and I am super excited. I love Xavier Cervera and all his restaurants/bars. He has a great food, drinks and excellent service. As a velocity resident, I am very annoyed by Justin Cafe patrons. The food sucks, the service is disgusting and I want it gone. How about the reggae concert this Friday evening? It is supposed to be high 86 and low 70 something.

Eric says: (7/19/12 5:38 PM)
Have you actually met your Navy Yard neighbors who hang at Justin's? You're either a misanthrope or you're talking about patrons on game days: Which means, surprise, drunk sports fans are annoying.

This area isn't populated enough for you to say "oh the jerks hang out at Justin's." wtf?

"... and I want it gone."

Did you stomp your foot whilst typing that?

TheJCG says: (7/19/12 6:51 PM)
Justin's, and the crowd there, is fantastic. What is it about the internet that makes people such incessant whiners?

BillP says: (7/20/12 9:18 AM)
Funny thing is Justin, the proprietor, is also a velocity resident... SMH while LOL!

conngs0 says: (7/20/12 9:21 AM)
I think Justin's Cafe great at filling the niche of a small spot to grab a decent sandwich and enjoy a few unique beers. And that's all it's supposed to be. But at the moment, it's basically the only game in town, so it can easily get too crowded and I can understand how certain local residents could get a little fatigued by it. I don't know if that justifies a little rant on a blog, but if it makes one feel better to do it, then have it at it, my friend.

But that will change in the relatively near future, and I think that the added variety in the neighborhood will cause even our friend ZoolanderANDtheBoYz to appreciate good ole' Justin's a bit more. To that end, it would be awesome of the Park Tavern and the rest of Canal Park stick with that November 2012 opening date. I'm a little skeptical about that happening, but you never know! Hopefully all of the other projects keep moving forward as well. In the meantime, if you get a little tired of Justin's, the trek to the establishments on Pennsylvania Avenue or Barrack's Row really isn't that onerous.

Bruce says: (7/20/12 9:26 AM)
Yes he is. He is a great guy and his place is great. I hope Justin's is around for a long time.....

PJY03 says: (7/20/12 11:36 AM)
I dine or grab a beer at Cervera's restaurants a lot. Anyone who would say that his restaurants have "excellent service" is not qualified to judge Justin's Cafe. His food is pretty good, but the level of service leaves a lot to be desired.

Seriously, Justin's is a cafe. That's all it is. It's not meant to carry the weight of being an entire neighborhood's nightlife scene. People will be very fond of Justin's once the baseball visitors have other bars to disperse to after games. And their food isn't bad at all -- they use fresh ingredients and its well seasoned. Not sure what folks expect out of a neighborhood cafe.

Alan says: (7/20/12 11:48 AM)
Zoolander I appreciate your hatred for Justin's only because it means one more bar stool available for me to sit on so I can grab a beer, a bite and a game (or three).

Maelstrom says: (7/20/12 11:54 AM)
I have never had problems with the food at Justin's. They take a while to get it out to you, but that's when it's crowded. Tortilla Coast is closer than 8th street if people want some variety.

MJM says: (7/20/12 12:33 PM)
On another topic anyone catch the pick-up cricket game next to 1015 Half St/Taxi garage last night?
