Sliding from Before to After
After the flurry of the past few months, real news is taking a bit of a breather. In the meantime, here's some reading material I've scraped up, so that it doesn't look like I've completely quit working: * Speaking of that new 11th Street Local bridge, much streetscape work has been done recently on O Street (new pavement, curbs, and brick paver crosswalks), and it looks like the concrete should be poured before too long to complete the connection from O to where the bridge begins to rise above the river. Maybe I'll actually get over there with my camera soon. * The Capitol Riverfront BID would love it if you'd fill out either their residential survey (if you live in the neighborhood) or the employee survey if you work here. * The Mayor is having a Ward 6 Fiscal Year 2013 Budget Town Hall Meeting tonight (April 25) at 6:30 pm at Eastern High School, 1700 East Capitol Street. * The next meeting of Police Service Area 106 is on Saturday, April 28, at 10 am at the Capper Seniors building at 900 5th St., SE. What else is going on? And I should probably remind that tickets for Springsteen at Nats Park on Sept. 14 go on sale Friday (April 27) at 10 am.

Osteen right wing rally. This is probably a pre republican convention prayer to save American from the evil Black man..LOL No offense intended.
Eric says: (4/25/12 3:12 PM)
Your comment was pointless and intellectually deficient.
ZoolanderANDtheBoYz says: (4/25/12 4:34 PM)
Intellectually deficient? ha Sorry sweetheart, I hurt your feelings.
JD says: (4/25/12 4:48 PM)
Okay, Zoo, suspending you for a few days. The comments here are not for little boys' pissing matches, and I absolutely don't tolerate BS like this. And Eric, you're on notice.
Maelstrom says: (4/25/12 7:20 PM)
To add something to the tidbits - More about sidewalks. I have been looking at the progress on canal park, and I don't know if anyone else noticed it, but it looks like L and K streets are going to be a much smaller width between 2nd st and 2nd place (no room for parking). This is different from the plans presented on the canal park site. I suppose the did this for the looks or for freedom of pedestrian movement between blocks? On a footnote, JD, you are totally awesome for that picture in the comment above. Not for why you had to use it, but because you used that to convey your mood. Win 10 internet points!
JD says: (4/25/12 7:37 PM)
Unfortunately it didn't apparently convey my mood enough to Zoo. :-)
It's now my official "this thread is on thin ice" notification. Be forewarned!
PTV-23 says: (4/25/12 7:45 PM)
That's a real bummer if the Navy Yard portion is closed to bikes. I take that route home now to avoid the crazy drivers on M street. On the positive side, the new bridge across the CSX tracks is amazing.
JD says: (4/25/12 7:48 PM)
@M, As for your Canal Park observation, it probably would be considered poor design to allow cars to park on K and L, breaking up the flow of the park and also making it more hazardous for pedestrians to cross from one block of the park to the next.
And @P, I'm hoping to ride that bridge pretty soon. What is your preferred route to get there? Do you just ride on M from 11th eastward, or down on Water?
F says: (4/25/12 10:02 PM)
There's a small forest of trees on the southeast side of Canal Park. Prepping for some major landscaping.
G Street says: (4/26/12 10:20 AM)
I have a military ID card - can I still bike down there? And what would Abigail "Abby" Sciuto, toiling away in the basement of NCIS, a few yards away, think of all this??
David Garber says: (4/26/12 4:03 PM)
Re: parking on L and K in Canal Park. Just spoke with the park folks a few days ago and they confirmed that there will be no parking on those blocks, for all the visual/pedestrian connectivity reasons mentioned above. I don't believe biking will be discouraged. Canal Park will be presenting an update at our May 14 ANC meeting (Courtyard Marriott, 7pm) for anyone who would like more info or to ask questions.
Maelstrom says: (4/26/12 4:23 PM)
@G Street Didn't NCIS move down to Quantico? (IRL. I know they are probably still on yard in the series)
MJM says: (4/29/12 5:35 AM)
I understand why some folks are upset with the biking thing at the NY but it is an active base and they have rules (probably because of stupid people and lawsuits?) - we just need to accept that they have them and abide by them because if people start breaking them then we might all not have access to the riverwalk there????
PTV-23 says: (4/30/12 9:16 PM)
JD, it's a real nice ride down by the water front eastward over to the new ped bridge. You'll pass all the yacht clubs. So today I had a real "you kids!!" moment...skate boarders have discovered the curved wooden benches on the bridge at diamond teague park.
