South Capitol at Potomac, Looking South-Southwest (see more)

With Pictures:
* Shipping containers have been arriving at the Fairgrounds (Bullpen) site. (They say there's going to be a "preview" event on March 30--looks like a lot of work to do in eight days. But the real opening is supposed to be in time for the Nats' season opener on April 12.)
* Greenery is arriving at 200 I/225 Virginia, and the sidewalks are done. Apparently the fences will be moved back sometime next week to keep the building perimeter secure but to allow the sidewalks to be used. (In other words, the "street sidewalk" will finally disappear.) There should also be repaving and crosswalk striping around the site coming in early April.
Without Pictures:
* Framing is racing along on the stretch of Capitol Quarter townhomes on 3rd south of L.
* Curbs are going in on 2nd Place next to Canal Park and the pavilion.
* The cherry trees in the Center Field Plaza at Nats Park are budding, but don't look on the verge of popping yet. Perhaps they can hold on until April 3.
Elsewhere:
* Mark Batterson says the demolition of the Miles Glass building and the garage next door on Virginia Avenue will happen next week.
* Yesterday we were talking about the possibility of a little BOOM, but here's what might happen 'round these parts if there's a really BIG BOOM.
* The Post writes about the neighborhood as part of the big Mega RealEstate focus on walkable communities, and keys in on the fact that the area has a number of different names. (For the record, it's not like I made up "Near Southeast"--I was just following the city's lead.) Within a few hours, though, Greater Greater Washington may have solved the problem by pointing us to the area's late-19th-century moniker: "Bloodfield." Wouldn't that work great for ballpark headlines? ("Phillies Dismembered at Bloodfield.")
Anything else folks are seeing?

Phil Salin from EYA told me yesterday (and their website now confirms this) that there is only ONE house left for sale at Capitol Quarter and it is not one of the model homes (both of those have been sold as well)! Only two weeks ago, four homes were still available including one of the models.

JD - FYI - i think your WaPo link is broken

JD says: (3/23/12 10:23 AM)
Oops, thanks on the WaPo link, it's fixed.

Also, in case folks didn't see the tweet yesterday evening, Foundry Lofts is now 80% leased: link

Maelstrom says: (3/23/12 10:23 AM)
I think some other stuff is broken too. While the links, authors, and where the comments were made is showing properly, my browser is showing the text of all 'recent comments' as the last comment made.

JD says: (3/23/12 10:25 AM)
Fixed too.

Kitty Loyd says: (3/23/12 10:28 AM)
I'm not sure if I missed this in previous posts, but the retail space at 55 M, east of their main entrance on M, is having some work done. There's a sign for Gilbane Special Projects Group ( link and some other permit signs up on the doors, though I was trying to catch the metro and didn't stop to read.

It looked as if they were framing up a wall and had a bunch of equipment and workers in there this morning.

JD says: (3/23/12 10:37 AM)
I'm pretty sure that's the Bank of America space we've talked about--except that I had thought it was going to be on Half Street because I saw all manner of desks and bank wall-type paintings in the Half Street retail space, and figured maybe that was getting subdivided. But it sure makes more sense for BoA to be on M Street.

PJY03 says: (3/23/12 3:25 PM)
So, apparently lots of commenters at the WP site are angry at us well-heeled gentrifiers and our sense of entitlement. Umm, ok.

Carey says: (3/23/12 4:17 PM)
I talked to Phil this morning and the houses are now all sold.

Eric says: (3/25/12 1:14 AM)
@PJY03 Not a lot. Just a loud, whiny, racially obsessed vocal minority who like to pretend dangerous crime-ridden areas have 'more character'.

ZoolanderANDtheBoYz says: (3/25/12 11:40 AM)
The space on 55M facing east is very small and I don't think that is Bank of America. By the way, the fairgrounds containers look horrible. Instead of all blue containers, it should have been multiple colors.
