From a piece in Friday's Post about [the lack of] food and drink options near Nationals Park: "The Velocity Capitol Riverfront condominiums, slated to open at First and L streets SE in the fall, will have a sports bar as part of its ground floor retail space." This is slightly different from what the Velocity sales office was telling prospective buyers earlier this year, which was that an Italian bistro was being planned.
The article also gives more details on the Akridge "block party" space at Half and N, mentions Artomatic, and talks about access via Circulator bus to the restaurants on Barracks Row.

this is a long shot, but on a walk around the hood this evening, noticed a 2X5 foot shark print on either side of building 170 - could it be preliminary marketing for dogfish ale (I know you said the deal fell through but you can't believe everything you read) - if it is marketing it's low budget and not yet well targeted - maybe it portends something bigger? for what its worth

Well, they never give an answer to the questions and yeah, facing the street, I would not want a bunch of drunks screaming at 2/3am below my place.

If you buy on a low floor it is a wrong expectation to have that restaurant space won't be used for alcohol. It's like buying a place near a waste transfer site and complaining about garbage smells )... or near a highway and complaining about traffic...

Talked to the sales folks again on Saturday. They aren't sure where the Post is getting their info - they still claim that the guy opening the restaurant is planning a little bistro that will serve beer and wine. No sports bar.

I keep holding out hope for a sports bar here, but it seems like every time we get close it falls apart. Hopefully someone takes advantage of this great opportunity some time soon.
