DC Presidential Inaugural Gala To Be at USDOT on Jan. 19
There's now a second inaugural shindig scheduled for the neighborhood, with the Post reporting on a "DC Presidential Inaugural Gala" to be held at the US DOT HQ at New Jersey and M on January 19 from 8 pm to midnight. It's being run by the "District of Columbia Presidential Inaugural Committee" (I don't yet know whether it's an official city entity or not; sure sounds like it, but I haven't yet confirmed). This is not Mayor Fenty's official ball (at the DC Armory) or the council's official ball (at the Wilson Building). Still trying to find out more.
Tickets are a mere $244.51 per person, says the Post. More when I get it. This is the night after the Capitol Riverfront Gala being thrown at 70 I Street. No actual inauguration-night balls for Near Southeast yet, though. Here's a comprehensive list of all the galas, balls, and other festivities planned throughout the four-day extravaganza.

Capitol Riverfront Promotional Video (May 2007)
From the Washington DC Economic Partnership, a new web site with a five-minute video promoting the $13 billion in investment that is coming to Near Southeast, the Southwest Waterfront, and Poplar Point. Lots of statistics and snazzy computer graphics show what the neighborhoods could look like in just a few years.

Capitol Gateway and Southeast Federal Center Zoning Overlays
Two documents that spell out in extreme detail exactly what the requirements are for developments along South Capitol, M, in the Ballpark District, and at "The Yards". Read also my short explanatory treatise on these two overlays.

Near Southeast Draft Urban Design Framework (4/24/03)
From the DC Office of Planning, detailing the current drafted plans for the Near Southeast areas. It's huge, and it's unlikely all of its ideas would come to fruition, but it certainly shows the ideas that public and private developers are working toward in the 'hood. See also the 2002 Neighborhood Strategic Action Plan , a huge DC government report about what had been done and what was planned for "Cluster 27", the Near Southeast / Waterfront area.

A Random Blog Entry from the JDLand Archives (2003-Present)

December 4, 2008: Sealed Bid Sale for Potomac Avenue Lots
The owners of the series of lots along Potomac Avenue between Eighth and Ninth have announced a Sealed Bid Sale for the properties, with a due date of March 15, 2009. The offering, which includes the building at Eighth and Potomac where the Quizno's is located, the boarded-up brown apartment building at Ninth and Potomac, and all the land in between (totaling .81 acre), is being handled by an affiliate of Lincoln Property Company. The current owners are the ICP Group, which purchased all these properties in early 2006 for $9 million, and had put them on the market earlier this year, apparently without success. ICP are also the folks who tried to get the Admiral Condo project off the ground at Eighth and Virginia, but are now disentangling themselves from that project (now an office development) as well.
